POSITION CONCEPT:
This position applies mechanical skill levels to perform installs, maintain and repair refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating systems up to 50 tons. The employee shall be capable of acting as a leaderman in working and leading HVAC projects. This position requires the individual to work independently with minimal supervision to accomplish the assigned work.
Ensures all completed work complies with Safe Work Practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, maintain, and repair refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating systems up to 50 tons.
- Trouble shoot, repair or replace broken parts on all types of HVAC systems up to 50 tons.
- Use the proper methods and equipment for checking electrical systems in this classification.
- Perform all work proficiently pertaining to temperature controls, preventive maintenance, service, and start up of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment up to 50 tons.
- Ability to cost estimate time and materials for refrigerant and air conditioning projects.
- Interprets standard plans, blueprints and mechanical design layouts.
- Performs diagnostics and makes repairs to all types of mechanical, hydronic, conveying and ventilation systems.
- Must have working knowledge of building automation applications hardware, software, installation and operations.
- Ability to perform multi-skills in other Facility Service trades of same or lower levels by having a basic knowledge of General Trades, Plumbing and Electrical.
- Overtime is required.
EDUCATION:
Required: Valid High School Diploma or valid GED
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Required: Must have completed and received certification through a State accredited Mechanical (HVAC) Vocational Technical program or received a Union Journeyman HVAC card.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Must have 5 years of related refrigeration or air conditioning experience. Must have universal refrigerant usage certification.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must have a working knowledge of refrigeration fundamentals, refrigerants, refrigeration systems and piping, refrigerant controls electrical-magnetic fundamentals, electric motors, electric circuits and controls, commercial/industrial systems applications and dehumidifying, distribution, cleaning and instrumentation. Must be proficient with building automation applications hardware, software, installation and operations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must have a valid Florida Drivers License.
