What Are We Looking For?
FortisAlberta is looking for an experienced Journeyman Power Line Technician to support our ongoing construction and maintenance operations. We're specifically looking for an individual who is an exceptional team player, devoted to safety, and is committed to providing an exceptional customer experience.
Please note the successful candidate may be offered additional compensation to relocate to the Canmore area as well as an additional pay premium.
This position will work with strict adherence to safety practices, regulations, and procedures to construct, maintain, repair, or troubleshoot the electric distribution system, whether overhead or underground. Live line work, drafting and performing switching plans, patrolling lines, drafting and obtaining hold offs, and conducting inspections will all be part of the daily duties for this position.
The Journeyman Power Line Technician will support construction readiness, which will include placing first calls, coordinating Planned Power Outages (PPOs), booking third party contractors (such as backhoes, hydrovac operators, and other contractors), and ensure construction sites are prepared as required.
When supporting distribution operations activities, the Journeyman Power Line Technician will prioritize and execute on trouble calls, power interruptions, escort oversized loads, and address minor repairs and issues on a daily basis.
The role will also be expected to participate in a regular standby rotation, mentor apprentices, and perform other special projects and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a valid Journeyman Power Line Technician certificate and a current valid Alberta Motor Vehicle class 3 or 1 driver's license with an air endorsement
Other Qualifications we are looking for:
Additional trade certifications, certificates, diplomas, or degrees in a related discipline would be considered an asset.
Special Conditions:
Business needs dictate that you must live within fifty (50) kilometers of the assigned service point office or a distance that allows a maximum forty (40) minute response time to the assigned service point office.
Participation in after hours and weekend standby rotation is required.
Travel away from home overnight may be required.
All successful candidates will be required to produce a current driver's abstract and will be subject to a criminal background check.
This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Participation in operations is required.
Participation on a construction crew is required.
