Job Summary

The Engineer II position is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.

Responsibilities

  • Performs feeder patrols for reliability issues
  • Determines when RVMs need to be set, Sets and removes RVM's
  • Analyzes and interprets data from RVM's, determines corrective action
  • Provides details on PQ issue to analyst for communication to customer, including pictures as necessary
  • Patrols high MAIFI feeders and CEMI devices to identify potential projects for the capital workplan
  • Logs hydraulic recloser counter readings on "hot spot" feeders and trouble areas; follows up with further patrol and capital projects as necessary based on readings
  • Participates in crew meetings periodically to educate on "hot spots" and gather information on repeat outages; Establishes contact point with C&M
  • Identifies future projects that feed into the capital workplan
  • Provides insight / calculations on secondary drops and transformer sizing causing PQ issues to a customer
  • Completes EMF review and analysis
  • Completes RFI review and analysis
  • Designs work to be completed to mitigate issues found in the field
  • Acts as central point of contact and owner of any Reliability or power quality issues in the specified geographical area
  • Responsible for all customer communication for PQ issues, Executive and PSC Complaints, and LAM requests
  • Creates tickets for any issues that come in through email so all items can be tracked
  • Performs up front analysis (pulls outage data, feeder operations, recloser data, CYME modeling) and puts together work packets for the PQ Field Tech
  • Creates any conditions and necessary WO's resulting from field visit
  • Tracks and monitors all open requests to ensure timely completion
  • Coordinates work with Engineering/ Scheduling/ VM/ substation maintenance/ relay/ etc.
  • Attends scheduling meetings to expedite PQ work orders
  • Coordinates with Reliability Engineer on identification and funding of future capital projects based on initial analysis as well as PQ field tech findings
  • Follows up with customers once work is complete
  • Owns Corrective Maintenance budget, releasing targets on trouble feeders
  • Participates in Ops Area Customer Experience meetings
  • Monitors momentary operations report and proactively works to address issues at a defined threshold
  • Monitors repeat outages report and proactively works to address issues at a defined threshold
  • Identifies future projects that feed into the capital workplan
  • Review OFU 500 CI and higher
  • Review OFU CEMI4 and greater
  • Initiate Work Orders to address issues
  • Design Work Order to address issues
  • Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
  • Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
  • Conducts engineering and related studies,
  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance,
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
  • Maintains accurate records and files,
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of well-defined problems in area of expertise.
  • Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis  of moderate scope and complexity. 
  • Conducts engineering and related studies; projects and assignments are clearly defined with  focus on development but must be able to complete routine engineering projects with minimal oversight; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with minimum impact on existing systems. 
  • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; demonstrates proficiency in technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical information and instructions.
