General Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Manager Health and Safety field support, the incumbent Health & Safety Coordinator will gain experience and skill in the management of Health & Safety activities. The successful candidate will report into the East Construction area.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide health & safety consulting services to Station Construction regarding the aspects of individual responsibilities, setting objectives, programming, assessment and corrective action.
  • Serve as a champion/advocate for specific Health, Safety & Environment initiatives by directing and promoting them within the line of business.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and management of Health & Safety processes for the line of business.
  • Assist in administering the health, safety and environment programs for the line of business.
  • Assist in the development and recommend and coordinate the implementation of Corporate and line of business policies relating to health, safety and the environment.
  • Assist in development of work procedures and methods to minimize hazards to all staff and the environment.
  • Carry out information programs for management and field staff to adequately measure, monitor and report on health & safety incidents.
  • Assist field staff in use of all appropriate work methods, knowledge of rules, policies, and application of multi-barrier principles in performing daily tasks.
  • Requires prolonged absence from home (75% of time or more) to visit various field locations.

Selection Criteria:

Essential Competencies:

  • Requires current construction field based experience.
  • Requires an understanding of the internal information systems and programs. (example: HODS , EHSM, SharePoint )
  • Requires good interpersonal skills to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Requires knowledge of and experience in technical and report writing to prepare various reports, articles, and presentations.
  • Requires knowledge of health & safety management in order to assist in the development, coordination and implementation of the Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems/Operational Plan, health & safety regulation, the administration of applicable health & safety programs.
  • Requires good organizational and time management skills.
  • Requires understanding of the application of safety policy and Government Acts and regulations pertinent to health & safety that pertains to Provincial Line's business.
  • Requires good communication and interpersonal skills to perform effectively as a consultant.
  • The required knowledge and experience is normally acquired through 6-8 years of station construction experience or a 4-year university education or equivalent
