Description
AES Clean Energy (AES CE) is seeking a Director of Preconstruction Project Management to coordinate a team of regionally focused Preconstruction PMs. This role's primary responsibility is to work with multiple internal project teams reviewing development status projects to manage the preparation for successful engagement with EPCs through RFPs or targeted partnership. The successful candidate will have a depth of experience in the renewable energy industry, including functions related to project management, construction progress reporting and data management, process improvement and change management and stakeholder management and have an ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment. This position will be based remotely, reporting to the Sr. Director of Preconstruction, and will focus on DG and utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for reporting, planning and directing Preconstruction Project Managers responsible to coordinate and collaborate optimally with the full Project Team from Early-stage Development through EPC Contractor Award to:

  • Work with the development team to understand and organize the project details needed for stage diligence and EPC engagement
  • Produce a Project Plan to identify and resolve risk areas and possible fatal flaws
  • Performing diligence of project information and deliverables to support solar, wind, transmission, and energy storage projects during the development phase
  • Review development documents and deliverables for completeness and compliance to ensure good industry practice
  • Coordinate with Development Engineering, Scheduling and Estimating teams to support development and EPC engagement

Responsible for leading the EPC RFP process with qualified contractors:

  • Lead pre-RFP meetings and review processes and levels with the project team
  • Ensure RFPs establish the basis of scope and pricing from contractor/supplier
  • Work with the project stakeholders to review and approve components of the bid package, submittals, and decisions through the process
  • Develop comparison metrics to accurately evaluate bids
  • Handle the contract transition from preconstruction to the construction execution team
  • Develop supervisory, conflict management, and team building skills among direct reports
  • Foster strong contract administration and construction risk management skills within Preconstruction PMs

Work with full Preconstruction teams (Scheduling, Estimating, Execution Strategy) to incorporate market data and Lessons Learned:

  • Flow EPC costs in the Solar, BESS, and Solar+BESS markets back to Estimating and Project Controls
  • Work with full Project Team to develop construction project budgetary tracking and breakthrough completion dates; handle transition to Execution team after Contractor award
  • Develop advanced understanding and application of contract commercial terms

Experience/Qualifications/Education Requirements

  • 5+ years progressively responsible experience in the renewable power industry with significant wind and/or solar energy management experience
  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, advance study in Project Management and/or MBA desired
  • Excellent understanding of project cycle including feasibility, permitting, easements/encroachments, design and utility processes and EPC contracting
  • Outstanding social skills, including internal collaborator management and ability to maintain professional and effective exchanges with team members and outside parties
  • Excellent organizational skills proven by clear and effective project plans and executive level reporting
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling concepts, techniques, and software such as MS- Project; experience with Primavera P6 a plus.

  • Strong computer and analytical skills, proficient with MS Office suite, Quickbase, Box and Procore
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
