Description
The Edgewater Generating Station in Sheboygan, WI is currently seeking a Power Plant Assistant to perform work in and around the plant.
This is an entry level position that provides opportunities to learn the trade and a career path to move into other positions within the company. This position is a temporary role and is estimated to last until the retirement of the plant, approximately 36 months.
The person in this role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Unit 5 Boiler including all pollution control equipment. Duties include visual and written rounds of critical equipment, cleaning and assisting Equipment Operators as needed. This role may also be responsible for assisting in coal yard operations, including train unloading, equipment rounds, and cleaning of equipment.

- There is a 5 shift rotation for this position. Day shift hours are 6:00am-6:00pm. Night shift hours are 6:00pm to 6:00am. Relief hours may be required for vacation, vacancy coverage, and needs of service. Schedule is subject to change depending on plant needs.
- This position is estimated to last until the retirement of the Plant, approximately 36 months.
Job Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Routine cleaning and janitorial work.
- Provides stores support.
- Performs unskilled and semi-skilled physical work required in the various operations of any department of the power plant.
- Performs maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds as assigned.
- Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to the position.
- Train for Equipment Operator - Fuels position.
- Train for Equipment Operator - Operations position.
Supervision
- Work performed under the supervision of the salaried or hourly supervisor as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Preferred Experience
- 2 years experience and/or equivalent in an electric generating facility, steam generating station and/or a coal yard fuel handling operation.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of mathematics and science at the high school level
- Ability to work with others.
- Mechanical ability.
- Knowledge of fuel-handling or heavy equipment and the layout of operation of a generating station.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements for the job.
- Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
