Electric Underground Labor Grade 4 candidates must complete a one day "assess for hire" orientation. These candidates must demonstrate the capacity to dig, operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently to pass the orientation.
Additionally, there may be occasions where employees may be asked to travel father than the 60 miles but still only in the state of Michigan.
Job Description/Responsibilities
Under directive supervision, performs all manual work required around the yards, buildings, grounds and in the field in connection with the construction of underground electric systems, communication lines and associated equipment, including such duties as:
- Operating power-driven tools - such as paving breakers, drills, hammers and tamps.
- Placing and maintaining barricades, flags, lights, signals and directing traffic.
- Installing de-energized underground electric systems.
- May install other entities' facilities such as, wire communication equipment and perform joint construction with a qualified gas crew and qualified electric crew.
- Operating a motor vehicle.
- Perform all duties associated with property restoration.
- Arranging and storing tools, material, and equipment on vehicles.
- Performing other similar and related work.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Must successfully pass an orientation as determined by the Joint Apprentice Committee.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must meet the minimum educational requirements which enable him/her to read, write, speak and understand English, and must understand the proper methods of storing and handling materials frequently used and the use and care of the more common tools.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid commercial drivers' license with applicable endorsements.
- Must be able to advance through certification training as required by their job duties.
The following skills / experience may set you apart from others:
- Experience utilizing hand and power-driven tools such as shovels, rakes, wrenches, paving breakers, drills, hammers, and tamps etc.
- Hard surface restoration such as sidewalk and parking lot replacement/repair and soft surface restoration including landscaping and lawn.
- Experience operating or working around heavy equipment.
- Experience working with skilled trades in gas, electric or communications.
Essential Functions:
Inspect, diagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul all components of motor vehicles, mounted equipment, trailers, all types of construction equipment, power tools and similar equipment. Perform other similar or related work. The omission of additional general duties does not prevent the assignment of future additional job tasks if such tasks support the needs of the business and are reasonable for this position.
