Customer Connection Equipment - NY (Melville, NY)

Our Customer Connection Equipment team is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy to maintain the integrity of our customer connection assets, which include gas meters, communication modules, service regulators, and above ground service piping. The team is currently at the forefront of developing "smart" solutions using new technology to improve customer safety and make our business processes more efficient. For the summer you will oversee the integrity assessments of connection equipment assets and analyze historical information to validate field data that has been received.

Future of Heat Asset Management Engineering (Melville, NY)

Our Future of Heat Asset Management Engineering team is focused on bringing National Grid's gas business into a clean energy future. The team develops and implements clean energy projects focusing on Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), Hydrogen Injection, and Networked Geothermal Systems. For the summer you will assist with the design of different projects currently in the early stages. You will attend project meetings and visit projects that are completed or in construction.

Future of Heat/Materials Testing & Analysis Lab (Hicksville, NY)

Our Future of Heat: Materials Testing Lab team is responsible for testing all new items to ensure the company only uses the highest quality materials on our gas system. The team creates detailed failure analysis on any material that fails in the field or has potential defects. For the summer you will assist the team with testing, database management organization, and creating analysis reports.

Gas Distribution Engineering (Long Island) (Brightwaters, NY)

Our Gas Distribution Engineering (LI) team designs, permits, and oversees the construction of all gas distribution projects. For the summer you will work with other members of the team to contribute to such initiatives as: regulator test station retirement, LIRR gas main crossings, corrosion test station tracking, and updating the gas leak dashboard.

Gas Distribution Engineering - Main & Service Asset (Melville, NY)

Our Gas Distribution Engineering: Main & Service Asset team oversees the company's different distribution integrity programs. The team also manages both state and federal reporting for our distribution assets. For the summer you will work with systems such as GIS and Power BI to assist the team with various reporting and data analysis.

Gas Innovation (Melville, NY)

Our Gas Innovation team is responsible for research & development (R&D) and deployment of new technologies within our gas business. The team works with different groups to conduct pilot tests to evaluate new technologies. For the summer you will manage your own R&D projects and be involved in several other R&D initiatives to gain knowledge of the nature of the work the Gas Innovation group partakes in. 

Gas Materials and Standards (Hicksville, NY)

Our Gas Materials and Standards team evaluates materials that will be used to build the gas infrastructure for our U.S. operations. For the summer you will assist in the team's data cleanup efforts. You will be updating material catalogues and consolidating all the information into one central database. This will consist of you visiting different warehouses to ensure materials are being correctly catalogued.

Gas Operations Engineering (Melville, NY)

Our Gas Operations Engineering team is responsible of ensuring system and customer reliability by conducting regular reviews and offering recommendations for proposed load additions and system construction activity. For the summer you will learn how to utilize DNV Synegi Gas Software, perform analysis of Gas Capacity Requests, and visit different work sites to learn about other National Grid departments. 

Gas Pipeline Safety & Compliance Quality Assurance (Hewlett, NY)

Our Gas Pipeline Safety & Compliance Quality Assurance (QA) team provides technical second-line assurance through field inspections to ensure the Gas Operations workforce is adhering to regulatory code and internal company procedures when performing natural gas facility installations and maintenance activities. For the summer you will be shadowing QA field inspectors as they travel to different operating work sites. You will also be responsible for reviewing inspection data for trending analysis.

Gas Transmission Engineering (Melville, NY)

Our Gas Transmission Engineering team ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, technical codes and standards, and business objectives to operate our gas system at pressures above 124 psig, safely. For the summer you will work with the team to develop and implement policies, work methods, construction standards, process improvement efforts and material specifications.

What You'll Need

  • Availability to start on program start date, June 5, 2023
  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2023 Semester
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, or Master's degree
  • Majoring in Engineering or a related field
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location for the summer
  • Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver's license. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview
