TransAlta is currently seeking a Natural Gas Analyst, reporting directly to the Manager of Natural Gas Trading. As the Natural Gas Analyst, you will be responsible for providing fundamental supply/demand analysis for natural gas markets in Canada and the USA. The role will include responsibility for maintaining and confirming daily position reports and PNL calculations. You will interact with traders on a daily basis and must be able to function in a dynamic and stressful environment. The successful candidate will be a reliable team player with exceptional analytical/quantitative abilities and superior communication skills. The position will also be responsible for trading various cash locations and will eventually grow into a trading role responsible for meeting annual profit targets. The Natural Gas trading desk is a proprietary trading desk responsible for successfully deploying and managing meaningful VAR positions with aggressive annual profit targets.
This is a full-time, salaried position and is based out of our Head Office in downtown Calgary.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide natural gas analysis and supply/demand modeling for AECO, Eastern Canada and the lower 48 United States
- Responsible for marking trade books and reconciling daily pnl in conjunction with the risk group
- Capable of trading multiple cash markets in North America
- Monitor fundamental natural gas market changes in real time
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in business, economics, Engineering, Science or any quantitative background
- Minimum of 1-3 years of natural gas analytic/trade experience
- Skilled in Excel, VBA, SQL, and Python
- A desire to grow into a trading position and capable of meeting annual PNL targets
- A team player with proven analytical, verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of working in a dynamic and stressful environment with high performance expectations
