Option Solution Engineering designs projects that improve the reliability of the high-voltage electric system for our customers. Key Accountabilities
- Perform transmission line engineering on various projects including new transmission lines, refurbishments, relocations, and reconductoring projects.
- Conduct field inspections, determine cost effective solutions, and develop comprehensive engineering reports based on applicable design codes, engineering procedures, and sound safety practices.
- Conduct engineering studies, analysis, and investigations in order to recommend corrective action or to prevent future problems.
- Identify Environmental and other permitting efforts along with associated project risks.
- Prepare conceptual engineering reports called Electric Transmission Option Solution Documents (ETOSD) that document the conditions and scope of various solutions to solve a Planning or Asset Condition need.
- Collaborate with diverse project teams to deliver projects on time with accurate scope and documentation.
- Proactively build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid and our customers.
- Provide technical guidance, support, and coaching to less experienced engineers.
- Develop documentation to assist with knowledge transfer.
- Develop and direct small teams with regard to project tasks and technical requirements.
- Investigate the adoption of new and innovative technologies.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

- Experience establishing clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school.
- 7+ years professional experience in an engineering field, preferably transmission engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineering License and/or advanced technical or business degree is preferred.
- Experience with transmission design software including: PLS CADD, PLS POLE, and MFAD
- Strong working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes, especially the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
- Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation including technical advancements.
