Develop, maintain, and coordinate effective and detailed training material, processes, and departmental procedures to ensure new and existing Reliability Center System Operators can safely, reliably, and efficiently operate the electrical systems in full compliance with all North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) Standards.
SALARY RANGE: $87,600 - $144,400 (Determined by the knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.)
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: NERC Trainer & Compliance Specialist

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the NERC Trainer & Compliance Specialist, Reliability Center Manager, and System Operator Supervisors to evaluate, identify, and resolve department training needs.
- Document and track all System Operator training events and NERC Certified Continuing Education Hours (CEH) to ensure all System Operators and Support Staff acquire the required number of CEH's to maintain their NERC Certifications.
- Develop and provide individual learning activities to NERC for identified BHC internal training courses.
- Perform on the job training as needed to meet individual System Operator training needs.
- Develop, implement, and communicate departmental and/or company training programs, policies, and procedures to all Reliability Center staff
- Monitor, track, and actively participate in BHC's annual Reliability Standard Audit Worksheet (RSAW) review.
- Review and update system operational notes, diagrams, operating guides, and other operating instructional and statistical documents related to the activities of Reliability Center operations.
- Provides technical expert advice and guidance on power system dispatch principles and practices.
- Serve on incident review team for the investigation of switching errors and/or operating incidents.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend Train-the-Trainer events (or similar) to gather awareness of new training trends and techniques used by other electric utilities.
- Update Reliability Center Manager with new/changing NERC requirements and assist as needed in developing and revising procedures necessary to maintain compliance.
- Acts as source of "standard methodology" information and keep abreast of trends and issues to design, implement, communicate, and administer compliance training programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in transmission and/or distribution operations required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of power system operations, bulk power systems, generation, transmission and distribution systems, Balancing Area operations, switching, and SCADA.
- Thorough knowledge and self-sufficient familiarity with the use of SCADA and other Reliability Center operational tools.
- Thorough knowledge of NERC and WECC regional procedures, government regulations, contractual agreements, operating policies and procedures, and equipment specifications.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions.
- Ability to provide on the job training before/after normal working hours to meet operational needs.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated strengths intact and diplomacy.
- Ability to maintain proficiency with new systems and software as technology evolves.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
