JOB OVERVIEW

OPG is looking for qualified candidates to join our Maintenance team as HVAC Technicians.  This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation's continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner.

As a TERM employee for Ontario Power Generation you will be required to join Local 46 or Local 401 and will be supporting the long-term life of the Pickering Generating Station. You will receive an attractive wage and benefit package through Local 46 or Local 401.

 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

A HVAC Technician works on refrigeration, cooling and combined heating cooling combination systems including geo-exchange systems in residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional settings. Specifically, a HVAC Technician:

  • Plans, lays out, installs, starts-up, connects, maintains, services, repairs, tests, verifies, commissions and de-commissions refrigeration and air conditioning systems, electronic components and their accessories
  • Installs and connects piping for the purpose of conveying all types of refrigerants used for both primary and secondary heating and cooling
  • Checks efficiency outputs and parameters; inspects and checks operation and integrity of components; determines set points; replaces defective, leaking, discoloured and worn components; performs shut-downs and lock outs; makes adjustments to pressures and controls; cleans and lubricates components; checks calibrations; reassembles and repairs components and systems; starts-up, tests and charges the systems
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads and connects pipe to functional components and utilities and services, tests, adjusts, commissions and decommissions the system
     

EDUCATION

  • Have a minimum Grade 12 education

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold a valid Certificate of Qualification 313A + ODP Card 
  • Successfully pass all formal examinations during the initial training period including Radiation Protection;
  • Be prepared to work a rotating 12-hour shift, including weekend and holidays;
  • Have exceptional problem solving abilities;
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Have a high comfort level with computers;
  • If applicable, have Canadian equivalency of foreign education; and
  • Be eligible to work in Canada.
