JOB DESCRIPTION
Hydrologist /Engineer I:

Operating under general supervision, an Engineer I or Hydrologist l develops technical expertise in his/her discipline.  An Engineer I or Hydrologist l plans and leads assignments and projects, may interface with internal departments and external organizations, and receives guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.

Hydrologist/Engineer II:
Operating under limited supervision, an Engineer II or Hydrologist ll has an intermediate level of technical expertise in their field.  This role plans and leads moderately complex assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and receives high-level guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.

General job duties include:

  • Plans and leads projects, assignments, and technical investigations
  • Acts as a liaison between other departments and organizations
  • Evaluates progress and results, recommending changes in procedures
  • Exercises moderate technical judgment in decision-making and independent action
  • Responsible for budgeting, financial accountability, and timelines on assigned projects
  • Utilizes industry- and discipline-related knowledge to interpret and comply with regulations as required by NERC, FERC, WECC, EPA, NESC, OSHA, FCC, etc.

Specific additional job duties:  This position is in the River Engineering group of the Water Resource and Policy Department and is targeting a Water Resource Engineer or Hydrologist with fluvial geomorphology expertise and river process experience. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide support for water resource engineering work, including river and reservoir hydraulic modeling, sediment transport and fluvial geomorphology process analysis, hydrologic modeling, aquatic habitat modeling, water quality studies, collection of water resource data, assessment of data for hydraulic/hydrologic model calibration and surveying.
  • Provide support for the data collection, design, permitting, and construction of streambank restoration and stabilization projects.
  • Perform operations studies using computer models and other data analysis techniques.
  • Data Management: Collects and processes water resources data.
  • Field Data Collection: Assist with basic surveying, stream-flow measurements, bathymetric data collection and other water data collection efforts related to water resource studies, planning, permitting, and construction. Includes boat-based and in-water fieldwork.
  • Performs literature reviews, interprets hydrologic and geologic data, prepares reports and delivers presentations under specific direction.
