Position Requirements
Technician A
- Responsible for assisting with the commissioning, decommissioning, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of the following Santee Cooper assets: switch yards, control houses, power transformers, load tap changers, power circuit breakers (oil, gas and vacuum insulation - spring, hydraulic and pneumatic mechanisms), station service and instrument transformers, voltage regulators, automatic circuit interrupters, battery banks and chargers, motor operated disconnects, sulfur-hexafluoride and oil processing equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing and septic systems, and safety systems (eye wash, fire extinguisher and hydrogen sensor). These responsibilities ensure that safe, reliable and economical power is delivered to Santee Cooper's customers with excellent customer support and environmental stewardship. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary and overnight travel is occasionally required.
- Assists in safely commissioning, decommissioning, maintaining, testing and troubleshooting assigned assets.
- Responds quickly to requests for assistance when on-call.
- Records of all work activities in Maximo, various reports and Time Sheets is essential per departmental policy and for NERC compliance.
- Safely drives, operates and maintains Santee Cooper's fleets and equipment.
- Promotes excellent environmental stewardship by safely and properly handling, maintaining or disposing of the following: oil, sulfur hexafluoride gas, batteries, light bulbs, lead paint, polychlorinated biphenyls, septic systems and water systems.
- Works safely and promotes safe work practices in others.
- Ensures that all assigned Santee Cooper tools, work equipment, personal protective equipment and areas of responsibility are safely and properly operated, maintained and accounted for.
- Ensures required internal and external training is completed before expiration of certification.
- *Will consider Technician A, B or C
- High School Diploma/GED + 5 years direct experience in Substation Maintenance required.
- Associate's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical field + 5 direct experience in Substation Maintenance preferred.
- A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Must obtain CDL with tanker endorsement within six months of hire.
- Must be crane operator certified within one year of hire.
- Must be confined space rescue certified within one year of hire.
