General Accountabilities:
- Under the direction of the FLM - Operations or his delegate, the civil maintainer will perform the necessary duties to maintain, renovate and erect buildings or structures through the use of skills in carpentry, dry-walling, masonry, painting, plumbing, residential heating & ventilations systems, tinsmithing, insulating, roofing, concreting and scaffolding.
- In addition he/she must be prepared to assist our shipping, receiving and stores function and to fill the requirements of a helper/assistant to our regional maintainers mechanical, electrical and lines.
- Act as lead hand in the performance of the civil maintainer function.
- Accept step-up to supervise other employees in the performance of the civil maintenance duties.
- Monitor contractors for compliance with corporate, provincial and federal rules/regulations as well as adherence to the appropriate specifications.
- Hold work protection for his/her work group and outside contractors
- Report on the above mentioned tasks either in written or electronic format.
- Frequent overnight absences, up to one-week at a time, will be required.
- Frequent Travel in small aircraft will be required.
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge:
- Grade XII or equivalent education required with up to ten years experience in civil and site maintenance.
- Will be experienced in at least two of the following: carpentry, plastering, masonry, plumbing, tinsmithing, concreting and scaffolding and will have successfully complete a recognized apprenticeship in one of the above trades. Preference will be given to an individual with experience and skills in the, carpentry, plumbing & residential H and V areas.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of Corporate Safely Rules and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- The applicant must be qualified/qualifiable in the work protection code, waste management and should have an understanding of work procedures as they relate to the maintenance and renovation of buildings or structures.
- The applicant should be experienced in contract monitoring.
- Must have a high level of safety consciousness.
- Must possess good interpersonal skills to maintain harmonious relationships with other staff, customers and the public.
- Computer skills would be an asset.
- Must have a valid class "G" driver's license and be able to qualify for a Class "DZ" license would be an asset.

The work assignments to encompass work at our Thunder Bay Office / Service Center and all the Hydro One Remote Communities' facilities we operate and maintain. The resident headquarters will be in Thunder Bay Ontario.
As a bonafide occupational requirement, the successful incumbent must be able to fully satisfy Transport Canada's Covid-19 mandate for flying on federally regulated aircrafts.
The work schedule for his position is four 10 hour days working remotely which requires staying in the north three nights per week.
