PSE's Electric Operations team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Senior Distribution Grid Management Analyst position!

Job Description

Assumes a lead role in ensuring the OMS (Outage Management System) and/or ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) supports safe operation of the electric distribution system through direct stakeholder input, application of design methodology, and robust testing. Ensures business continuity of upstream and downstream systems when incorporating changes to OMS/SCADA/ADMS systems. Manages the model that supports real-time operations, delivering accurate and timely updates through various import and QA processes. Plays a key role to align business needs with IT capability - clarify requirements, prioritize needs, and articulate solutions and their impacts. Key support of grid modernization efforts to expand the capabilities of the electric distribution system supporting safe, reliable, smart, and flexible operations. Consults with Training personnel in support of training simulations and data needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead role in reviewing, updating, and modifying data between GIS (Geographic Information System) and ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management System) in support of the real time operations model.
    • Reviews and approves modeling updates to the real-time operating model in ADMS, assigns/coordinates work to perform model changes, and provides guidance to less experienced staff.
    • Coordinates with various departments to deliver model updates to the real-time system in support of grid management and switching activities.
    • Reviews and approves request for configuration changes, manages the ADMS UX, and consults in the configuration of GIS data model to support grid management.
    • Ensures end-to-end connectivity between Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) points and ADMS meet safety and operational needs by verifying SCADA points association and participating in testing and commissioning.
    • Performs high-level load flow analysis and estimates related to decisions on switching lines, controlling equipment and devices, and customer loads.
    • May perform real time redline functions for system operations, create or modify schematics, and make display updates in ADMS.
    • Requests field investigations to resolve conflicts.
  • Works closely with IT, GIS, and other departments in the testing and implementation of system upgrades, enhancements, and security changes.
    • Gathers direct feedback and requirements from internal customers and translates into workable solutions.
    • Designs and performs overall system testing, ensures end to end integrity is maintained.
    • Uses analytical tools and methods to provide system enhancements and streamline complex processes.
    • Provides system administration, including designing and configuring operational rules.
  • Facilitates use of ADMS and related data through process improvement, handling complex problems related to system issues and data inconsistencies, report generation and problem resolution.
    • Can identify commonalities and suggest a consistent approach in the absence of standards.
    • Develop dashboards, reports and other tools to support consumption of ADMS data outside the application, spot trends, and develop strategies.
    • Take lead on process improvements and project support related to ADMS.
  • Responsible to coordinate with GIS, IT, Planning, and Grid Modernization teams in design, testing, and implementation of advanced applications (like Volt-Var Optimization, FLISR) and devices.
    • Identifies and resolves missing and conflicting data that is required for OMS/ADMS from GIS.
    • Leads network tuning process to provide basis for real time load flow.
    • Uses information gathered from System Operations to ensure behavior and representation of new devices supports the safe operation of the electric distribution grid.
  • Retrieves, researches, analyzes and interprets EO, maps, as-builts, records, and engineering documents.
  • On call 24 x 7 for emergency responsibilities and system support.
  • Works staggered work schedule to ensure availability of real-time network electrical model and control system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree and 5 years of experience in related field, or combination of specialized training or experience and 5 years of directly relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated team leadership, including across organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and analytical skills.
  • Experience in modeling geospatial data.
  • Experience gathering system or user requirements to deliver solutions.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and Data Validation methods.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, or science/engineering field.
  • Experience in two or more of the following: Geographic Information System (GIS), Outage Management System (OMS), SCADA, ADMS/DMS.
  • Working knowledge of electric utility construction standards.
  • Working knowledge of Smallworld GIS (Electric Office), PowerOn OMS, or Schneider ADMS.
  • Experience working in a real-time Operations environment.
  • Experience with MS Visio and MS online collaboration tools.
