Alliant Energy has an outstanding opportunity for a Directional Drill Operator in Fond du Lac, WI!
In this position you will ensure all directional plans and procedures are installed according to company specifications and design. You will also be responsible for:
- The accurate bore path and depths of installed equipment
- Proper completion of required paperwork
- Maintaining and ensuring efficiency and safety on each job site
- Check in on locates that have been called in before a job is started.
The Directional Drill Operator will also drive and operate digger/derrick truck and operate all associated power equipment and serve as Groundman for line crews.
This position is designated as a "Project Position." As such, there is a point where the project will end, which is estimated to be up to 30 months maximum. At the end of this project, you will have return rights or can stay in the position if it becomes a regular option.
Job Responsibilities
- Operates horizontal directional drill in accordance with blueprints and designated plans.
- Operates directional drill locating equipment.
- Operates Hydro Vac Equipment.
- Maintains company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines.
- Performs simple maintenance on drilling equipment including but not limited to vice jaw changes, sub saver installation, etc.
- Assists with construction clean-up as necessary.
- Drives truck with trailer attached, hauling directional drill or associated equipment to the work site as directed.
- Works outside in varying weather conditions.
- Operates backhoe, trencher, mini excavator, digger/derrick truck, large system boom trucks (with a crew), hydro vac and trailer and associated equipment when needed.
- Performs underground installation of fiber, electric and gas utilities and associated equipment.
- Exposes existing utilities, which may also require the use of hand tools.
- Uses underground locating equipment to identify utilities.
- Installs underground utilities (gas, electric, fiber, etc.)
- Performs the necessary clerical work to account for mapping of material/equipment installed, material usage and time as required.
- Performs route planning and mapping with GPS technology.
- May assist line and gas crews with all associated work.
- Applies general knowledge of material used in construction of electrical and gas systems to perform work.
- May work alone when safe and/or may work with crews.
- Performs utility type duties.
- Patrol lines.
- Obtains and delivers equipment, materials, and supplies to and from storeroom or other locations.
- Performs minor maintenance duties of truck and associated equipment.
- Trains other employees as assigned in above work.
- Performs all work according to company procedures, state regulations, and safety practices.
- Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.
- Travels throughout the service territory.
