Calling all Civil Engineers. Are you looking for a new engineering opportunity and have a an education and/or experience in Civil Engineering?    Due to a recent promotion, our System Replacement Engineering Team has an immediate opening for an Engineer who will be responsible for engineering and project management of distribution and/or transmission pipeline projects from initiation to completion.   **WGL will hire at Level I, II or III depending on the candidate's experience

You Will

  • Reviews engineering plans and designs submitted by various transportation agencies or external clients for conflicts with Washington Gas' existing facilities. 

  • Coordinates pipeline replacement and/or rehabilitation projects with various transportation agencies and utility companies, and with other departments within Washington Gas.

  • Supports the identification and prioritization of projects for replacement and/or rehabilitation based from Washington Gas' various replacement programs and criteria.  This includes familiarity with the risk and trends analysis, and the development of the projects' scope, cost, and schedule for design, planning, and budgeting purposes.

  • Reviews and approves the design drawings and sequence of work prepared by Washington Gas' internal and external designers/engineers.

  • Ability to monitor, control, and report cost, schedule, and scope of multiple replacement projects during design, permit acquisition, and construction phase.

  • Supports the acquisition and procurement of materials, as well as, the engineering, design, and construction services needed for the project.

  • Supports the development of System Replacement Area's fiscal year capital budget and five-year capital budget plan.

  • Supports Washington Gas' implementation and ability to recognize areas for continuous improvements of its Distribution Integrity Management Plan (DIMP).

You Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferably in Mechanical or Civil

  • A general knowledge of related engineering disciplines and applicable codes and standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with internal and external business partners.

Engineer Level I

  • Internship or previous relevant experience a plus.

  • "Engineer-in-Training" (EIT) preferred.

Engineer Level II

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the natural gas or related industry.

  • "Engineer-in-Training" (EIT) preferred.

Engineer Level III

  • 5+ Years in the natural gas industry or related industry.

  • Engineer-in-training (EIT) Certification.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) Certification is preferred.
