OVERVIEW

The Failure Analysis Manager is responsible for managing the destructive analysis of cells and batteries to generate high quality failure analysis reports which aid in the root cause identification and corrective actions to eliminate failure mechanisms.

ACCOUNTABLE FOR

The Failure Analysis Manager is responsible for producing thorough and timely FA reports that aid scientists and engineers in discovering manufacturing inconsistencies, impurities in raw materials/finished products and confirming product claims from physical observation and component tear downs.   This role includes managing priorities and quality of work of Failure Analysis Technicians with a focus on generating formal scientific analytical reports and process improvement.

ROLE LOCATION: EDISON, NJ

ESSENTIAL RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Adhere to company safety protocols and laboratory standard procedures and quality guidelines
  • Prepare and assemble lab cells, batteries, related fixtures, and all other hardware required to understand the mechanics and function of Eos batteries
  • Supervise technicians for quality and efficient throughput
  • Deconstruct batteries using hand tools and power tools at various stages of testing and document findings through measurements, photographs, and descriptions 
  • Generate reports and summaries of findings adhering to Scientific Reporting standards, handoff of summaries of observations and finished reports to the project scientists and engineers 
  • Ensure process accuracy through following Work Instructions and Quality Assurance procedures 
  • Maintain lab cleanliness utilizing 5S protocol and assist in maintaining material inventory
  • Assist in routine facility maintenance, clean-up, and equipment set-up
  • Evaluate current procedures for opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and experience in laboratory environments 
  • Understanding and experience with formal scientific report writing
  • Good oral and written communication skills - able to clearly summarize findings 
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Hands-on knowledge of physical analysis techniques
  • Experience with precision hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to use mechanical equipment for deconstruction process

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years in laboratory environment 
  • Must be a permanent resident or citizen of the U.S.
