Primary Purpose:
The Domain Engineer Team Lead oversees a team of Domain Engineers and drives provisioning and configuration of IT platforms, services, and infrastructure. As hands-on members of product and capability teams, ensures reliability of systems, platforms and networks. Drives success in building, running, and maintenance of critical IT infrastructure, and provides subject matter expertise in area of specialization. Has people leadership responsibilities, owning performance management and assisting with career development for those under their direction.

Works with Contractors through the external vendor manager directly or their back-office support for any assigned work, to lead status meetings with the external vendor manager to review progress and quality of assigned work. Assists as needed with providing company protocols, scope of work, and contract adjustments where valid and approved by company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads determination of required system capabilities and selection of technology (systems, platforms or networks). Analyzes new technology to identify and mitigate risks, with a focus on planning for scaled implementation of new technologies within existing technology system landscape. Determines performance needs and leads identification of critical impacts and planning of mitigation strategies. Ensures that performance, reliability, and security needs are met across domain. Domain is defined as an organized set of components based on technology, business, or organizational similarities, typically with significant technology trends impacting its environment (e.g., Cloud, Cybersecurity). Partners with architects to ensure adherence to overall architecture and standards. Guides development of a self-service model for platforms and technology services that empowers product teams and drives efficiency.
  • Leads development and implementation of high-performance, fault-tolerant (i.e, resilient, and able to continue operating in event of failure of one or more components), secure and scalable technology. Oversees implementation of new technologies, coordinating teams to install, configure, and maintain technology systems. Leads complex (e.g., those with significant dependencies and potential impacts to other systems, applications, and teams) and/or scalable technology changes according to delivery framework for business-critical functional areas while following established designs and configurations. Consults with product teams on engineering and operational topics relevant to their domain. Provides domain-relevant input and oversight where needed for applications and systems.
  • Conducts analysis, diagnosis and repair of technology (systems, platforms, or networks), with a focus on determining root cause of issues and ensuring adequate performance and capacity management. Leads triage and issue resolution for escalated issues related to their area of specialization (e.g. a specific application, technology, or platform). Provides subject matter expertise related to their area of specialization to assist other teams with maintenance and operations, and to mitigate any impacts of interdependencies between systems and platforms related to domain. Develops and recommends technical strategies and solutions to maintain and/or expand service levels. Makes recommendations regarding Technology Lifecycle Roadmap in collaboration with architects. Holds accountability for operational oversight of timeliness and quality of vendors' deliverables providing maintenance and support of technology related to their domain.
  • Participates in scrum ceremonies (i.e., the 5 ceremonies involved in Scrum methodology: daily stand up, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and retrospectives), acting as a domain Subject Matter Expert (SME), informs sprint planning which is the initial planning event that begins a sprint and defines what can be delivered in a sprint. Actively supports product teams in writing user stories and defining user story acceptance criteria where domain is applicable. A user story is a unit of work that is delivered within a sprint, typically captured with a specific format including acceptance criteria that are used to determine when the work is complete.
  • Acts as direct supervisor to a team of employees. Holds responsibility for performance management activities, addressing staffing needs, people-related administrative activities, managing employee relations, and other people management duties as required. Supports team members in their individual development and continuous improvement, including goal setting and training plans. Cultivates and mentors technical talent, coaching engineers to build their technical skills and driving continuous improvement across product teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Science, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • 8 years progressive experience working with IT software, systems, and/or infrastructure, including progressive programming experience in one or more programming languages.
  • 5 years experience working with IT infrastructure, with experience in the planning, building, and troubleshooting of systems.
  • Development Languages - Knowledge and understanding of multiple IT programming languages and ability to write code and develop applications using those languages.
  • Software Delivery Frameworks - Strong knowledge of delivery frameworks such as Agile Scrum, Kanban, and/or Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC); proven ability executing projects in a collaborative, fast paced environment.
  • Packaged Platforms / Systems - Knowledge of technologies and Packaged Platform/Systems such as SAP, IBM, Oracle, Public Cloud services, etc.
  • IT Service Management - Ability to manage IT services lifecycle (service strategy, design, transition, operation, continuous service improvement) and use DevOps methodology and tools to analyze results.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Cloud Delivery - Familiarity with different cloud computing delivery models, knowledge of cloud-based solutions for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS), and ability to deliver cloud-based technologies and systems.
  • DevSecOps Practices - Strong understanding of processes and concepts to drive the integration of development, operations, and security into enterprise software development to produce better outcomes.
  • Cloud Operations, Scaling and Maintenance - Ability to maintain and administer a Cloud network, including acquiring, testing, installing, patch management, replacing or upgrading both hardware and software features.

May require work outside of normal business hours and/or 24/7 response availability for system and application maintenance, enhancements, production releases and/or operational emergencies.
