Primary Purpose:

Develop and implement internal and external communication plans and programs to support the strategic goals and business objectives of the corporation and/or business units.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop communications to support release of material or financial information to the press and analysts in coordination with Investor Relations (e.g., earnings reports, M&A activity, etc.). Proactively identify and drive key messages on business performance, long-term company goals, and industry trends. This includes collaborating with other groups throughout the organization to ensure messaging will have positive impacts with the company's various stakeholder audiences. Draft all strategic press releases, Sempra.com content, Annual Report and CSR content that will reach critical stakeholders. Support with strategic direction, drafting and distribution of social media content using data and analytics to better target stakeholders and to inform and assess performance.
  • Lead the strategy, development and execution of our executive communications program. Draft and edit targeted executive communications for internal and external audiences, including CEO and senior team speeches, emails, short- and long-form written communications, presentations, video scripts and talking points for events and op-eds for placement in select media.
  • Manage communications of various sustainability projects, working closely with internal/external stakeholders to advance awareness of priority sustainability initiatives.
  • Research, write, edit and coordinate a variety of internal communications to better inform and engage employees. Provide communications support for events such as the company leadership meeting, Safety Summit and annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit.
  • Develop interesting storylines targeted towards the financial media. Respond to media inquiries in a timely manner, including drafting talking points and briefing materials for executive interviews. Develop strategies for driving media coverage and foster relationships with key media contacts and influencers. Work closely with subject matter experts, executives, internal thought leaders and PR agency. 24/7 availability to respond to emergencies requiring communications support. Maintain crisis communications plans and coordinate appropriate internal crisis-communications training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, communications, or a related field required.

Experience:

  • 7+ years experience in public relations, journalism or related field.
  • Experience in internal communications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Team player with exceptional interpersonal, writing, editing, verbal and storytelling communication skills.
    Engaging writer and storyteller who can distill complex concepts, craft a compelling narrative for multiple stakeholder audiences; excellent proofreader and editor.
  • Ability to adapt to the unique tone and style of the executive to deliver credible, authentic communications.
  • Strong business acumen, including the ability to understand, and to relay complex information to various stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong grasp of global issues, current events and business trends.
  • Understanding of financial communications and disclosure.
  • Have strong project management skills and a history of driving projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound problem-solving skills, ability to objectively analyze current practices, identify root cause problems and improvement. opportunities, formulate a range of achievable options, outline relative strengths, build consensus for a preferred solution.
  • Self-directed strategic thinker capable of building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and making an impact quickly.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • Ability to effectively manage external vendors and help ensure consistency in the quality of work and highest ROI.
