Primary Purpose:
Plan, write and produce the annual corporate responsibility report; ensure that reporting continues to align with best practices; design supporting communications initiatives to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences including investors, regulators, employees and community leaders. Provide strategic and tactical direction and support to multiple internal communications teams including Green Teams; employee communications' "best-practices" working group; and other teams as needed. Educate employees and drive employee engagement in sustainable practices. Develop, write and launch periodic communications that reach a growing list of interested external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the strategic progression of the company's corporate responsibility report, planning, writing and producing the annual report. Build awareness and educate employees and plan, develop and manage the corporate responsibility website on the company's intranet site. Develop, write and launch periodic communications that reach a growing list of interested external stakeholders. Monitor and report on usage metrics, incorporating key takeaways into the planning process for future efforts.
- Develop and lead communications initiatives to engage internal and external stakeholders on the topic of Sempra's corporate responsibility successes and challenges. Educate employees and drive employee engagement in sustainable and responsible practices. Provide strategic guidance and support to internal communications efforts and teams.
- Support Sempra's responses to investor surveys related to corporate responsibility including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and others. Identify and apply for awards as appropriate.
- Research and write speeches for senior executives as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Political science, public relations, public policy or the environment required.
- A graduate degree a plus.
Experience:
- 10+ years related professional experience in government/public affairs, public relations, or communications and public relations.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent writing skills; ability to communicate clearly, concisely and to listen effectively; capacity to summarize complex information into clear oral and written communications; expertise in explaining complex concepts in a concise and understandable way; speechwriting experience a plus.
- Ability to analyze complex corporate systems and processes; provide strategic recommendations on improvements that may be needed; and leadership on moving any resulting improvement initiatives through to conclusion.
- Ability to accept responsibility and work independently; must be able to plan, organize, control and coordinate multiple projects, often under tight time constraints.
- Ability to multi-task and think creatively and analytically; excellent problem solving skills.
