JOB OVERVIEW

OPG is excited to offer several student opportunities in our Radiation Protection Department in Pickering, Ontario.  This is a four (4) month student placement commencing in August, 2021.

All students applying for student positions at OPG must meet the below eligibility:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution.
  • Have a minimum average of 70% cumulative GPA.
  • Returning to full-time studies in the same program following the completion of the work term OR requiring the work term or co-op placement to graduate.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Assist in supporting the execution of radiological work
  • Support the implementation of Radiation Protection program at site
  • Assist Radiation Protection Field Staff and Health Physicists with data collection and analysis
  • Prepare and process dosimetry for the execution of radiological work
  • Apply shielding to reduce radiological hazards
  • Utilize Radiation Personal Protective Equipment
  • Free release of materials from radiological zones

EDUCATION

  • Minimum completion of 1st year at a college specializing in Radiation Safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to the candidate who has the following skills and qualifications:

  • Successfully completed 1st year of a Radiation Safety program.

This job will provide you with the following professional development:

  • Working knowledge in order to perform Radiation Protection Technician duties. Successful candidates will be Yellow Badge qualified upon completion of the co-op term.
  • Technical understanding of how CANDU stations work.
  • Experience in implementing the Radiation Protection Technical skillset in an operating nuclear generating station.
  • Enhanced teamwork and communication skills.
  • Improved time management skills.
