JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, consultative & results driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Engineer/Officer, with OPG's Plant Engineering Services - Northwest Operations, based in Atikokan, ON at OPG's Biomass Generating Station.
Reporting to Plant Engineering Services - Northwest Operations, the Mechanical Engineer/Officer will provide mechanical engineering technical support for the continuous safe and efficient operation of OPG's generating stations.
The Mechanical Engineer/Officer is the lead engineer that takes full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating mechanical engineering projects that are necessary for the continuous safe, efficient and economical commissioning and operation of OPG's stations and facilities in the Northwest region.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Plan, coordinate and conduct Mechanical engineering assessments, studies, inspections and investigations, designs, and evaluations of mechanical systems.
- Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates, request for proposals, proposal evaluation, award, contract negotiations & administration & co-ordination, construction monitoring, resolution of contract disputes.
- Provide technical advice and guidance on a variety of technical matters operations maintenance operations, performance, design, and commissioning.
- Provide input to business plans, work plans, budgets with respect to project priorities, schedules and resource requirements.
- Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required.
- As a technical expert in mechanical engineering provide advice, guidance, consultation and services to engineering problems including:
- Engineering matters related to projects;
- Equipment assessments.
- Operating problems.
- Risk assessments.
- Respond to emergencies, equipment failure, unsatisfactory equipment performance, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and recommend actions.
- Develop plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance and monitoring programs.
- Serve on study, project teams or task groups.
- Pre-start health and safety reviews, investigation of safety or technical incidents.
EDUCATION
- 4 year university degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Unrestricted P. Eng. certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for an engineering professional with the following:
- Applicable hands-on experience in designated engineering discipline: post-graduate experience or via internship/apprenticeship or co-op programs;
- Experience working in an industrial environment with mechanical systems is preferred,
- Experience working in a Generating Facility, industrial power system, waste facility, or utilities organization is preferred;
- Experience conducting assessments, testing, studies, inspections, investigations, designing, evaluating, construction monitoring & maintenance of mechanical systems associated with industrial facilities;
- Software associated with mechanical engineering, monitoring and instrumentation;
- Reporting preparation, and strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with people;
- A results oriented, efficient & value oriented focus, excellent verbal and written communicator, with high integrity to uphold company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;
- Experience and qualifications in Design Engineering is preferred;
- Willingness to travel via road, airplane, float plane, helicopter etc. 20% of time;
