Description
This position is responsible for conducting written and practical operator qualification evaluations of Southern Company Gas operations employees. The evaluators are responsible to ensure employees are qualified to perform tasks properly and safely in accordance to compliance standards with Federal and State regulations as well as with company operating and maintenance procedures. The evaluators will be held accountable for accurate and timely evaluations to ensure employees remain in compliance. Evaluators will communicate any gaps observed while performing evaluations to drive change in training, policies and procedures. In addition, the evaluators will assist with field operations leadership in On the Job training (OJT) of operation employees.
Job Responsibilities
Functional Expertise:
- Performs operator qualification evaluations, written, simulated and on-the-job training to evaluate field personnel compliance with company policies and procedures which are driven by Federal and State regulations as well as industry best practices and company-required requirements in 3-4 or more of the following areas:
- Construction Operations
- Field Operations - Service & Distribution
- Leak Survey
- Asset Protection
- System Operations
- Transmission
- Storage/Peaking
- Corrosion
- Field Training/Welding
Business Acumen:
- Recommends updates/revisions to policies, procedures, training or O&M manuals based field observations where procedures may not be followed because they are not clear, incorrect or non-existent
Engagement:
- Delivers constructive feedback to evaluated employee and reporting supervisor on employees areas of opportunity.
- Reports daily evaluation results to OQ Training Manager and Analyst in a clear and concise manner; input and monitor data in available systems
Driving Results:
- Promotes safe work practices by shutting down job if unsafe situation is encountered during an evaluation or if activity affecting the integrity of the pipeline does not meet company standards
- Prepares evaluation report and communicates evaluation results to the evaluated employee, the reporting supervisors and OQ training manager
- Recommends additional training, if deemed necessary, for field personnel based on results of the evaluation
- Evaluates employee performance for safety and quality workmanship.
Qualifications
Required:
Experience in any of the following:
Construction Operations, Field Operations, System Operations, Transmission, Storage, Corrosion, Field Training/Welding, Leak Survey, Asset Protection and Affiliate Companies
Related Work Experience:
Required:
- 3 years operations experience in a gas utility in a field operating departments
Preferred:
- 5 years extensive field operations experience in a gas utility, with 2 years experience as an OQ Evaluator
- Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
- Thorough understanding of company policies, procedures and O&M manuals
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and managers
- Ability to effectively communicate assessment findings
- Departmental training technologies (PlayerLync, SharePoint, LearningSOurce, etc.) - basic proficiency
- MS Excel - basic proficiency
- MS Word - basic proficiency
- MS PowerPoint - basic proficiency
- MS Teams
Preferred:
- Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Occasional Travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
- Requires constant standing or walking.
- Requires the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Requires work in both field and office environments.
- Requires ability to safely operate company vehicle.
- May/will work near or with moving mechanical parts.
- May/will be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or chemicals.
- Will be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions.
- May/will be exposed to excessive noise.
