Please ensure you're aware of the location, which is approximately 75 kilometers north of the Town of Smooth Rock Falls before applying to this position.  The successful applicant must be willing to report to Abitibi Canyon Generating Station from a distance that is realistically commutable.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a results-driven team players to join our organization in the role of General Tradesperson to service our Abitibi Canyon Generating Station Centre located approximately 75 KM North of Smooth Rock Falls, ON.

The General Tradesperson is responsible for performing industrial maintenance work inside and outside of our hydro facilities.  This facility operates a Staff House for employees to stay at during the week.  The shifts are Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day / 40 hours per week with Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Carry out cleaning, laundering, excavating, sandblasting, applying protective coatings, rough grinding, and lubricating, as directed.
  • Assist in performing routine tasks involving, erecting, dismantling, reassembling, moving, loading and unloading, servicing, various fixtures, materials, structures, furniture, buildings, hardware, equipment and vehicles.
  • Operate portable, hand- and power-driven tools and equipment. 
  • Operate any vehicle or combination of vehicle and trailer up to the level trained.
  • Perform work protection code (WPC) activities up to the level trained.
  • Maintain and repair roads, drainage systems, including snow-removal and ground maintenance.
  • Perform water-regulating operations that involve removing and installing logs, cleaning trash-racks and booms.
  • Perform grounds maintenance activities, grass cutting, tree trimming, minor concrete/asphalt work on decks and roadways.
  • Stock storerooms and maintain supplies.
  • Carry out housekeeping and janitorial tasks.
  • Accountable for the health, safety and well being of self and others, in accordance with procedures and standards.

EDUCATION

  • Minimum of Grade 10 education or equivalent  experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of maintenance/handyperson experience in an industrial environment;
  • Basic understanding of construction and carpentry practices/knowledge;
  • Knowledge and experience working with hand tools, materials, and methods involved in interior and exterior repair;
  • Candidates with previous heavy equipment operating experience is highly desirable;
    • Hands on experience with Loader, Grader, Snow Plow, Fork Lift, is considered an asset. 
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks in a time-effective manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work inside or outside (in all types of weather) and occasionally at heights;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Able to work alone or as a collaborative team player;
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills;
  • Positive, professional and enthusiastic demeanor;
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time;
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (ability to lift up to 50lbs);
  • Must hold a valid G Driver's License in good standing; AZ or DZ License is an asset
  • Flexibility to work the following shifts (40 hours per week): Mon to Thurs - 10 hours per day.
