JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. Prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.
EIM Market Performance Analyst I
Summary:
Performs Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) research, gathers, assimilates and processes critical EIM related Import and Export trade information, CAISO energy imbalance information, provides essential analysis and strategic recommendations to the EIM Entity Scheduling Coordinator (EESC) team. Coordinates with PNM Participating Resource Scheduling Coordinator (PRSC) analysts, Operations Engineers, and Energy Analysis staff to develop the conception and design of new EIM metrics and agreements to continually improve PNMs EIM Market performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Gathers information from various systems.
Track metrics and perform variance analysis.
Analyzes load and resources, reviews renewable forecast versus actual trends. Utilizes energy management system software applications (such as OSI-soft PI) to develop situational awareness displays for PNM locational price trends, Generation Dispatch forecasts, real time generation operating point displays, and PNM load forecast comparisons to CAISO load forecasts.
Stays informed about system modifications that will impact PNM¿s training requirements and participation in the EIM market.
Participates and represents PNM in stakeholder processes or other initiatives in, WECC , CAISO EIM related work groups and operating committees.
Prepares and presents presentation packages on EIM and other emerging energy market related topics.
Creates, coordinates and distributes various reports to EIM system operators, department management and upper management.
Coordinates internal dissemination of information to affected business units and facilitate the development of coordinated company positions on CAISO and EIM-related issues.
Collaborate with the Wholesale Power Operations regarding EIM/CAISO process and training requirements.
Interface and collaborate with the Energy Analysis group as it relates to EIM settlements and billing.
Work with BTS, Power Operations Engineering, Operations Technology and Cyber Security to support the upkeep of all software applications and systems.
Assist in EIM Scheduling Coordinator processes that support the development of metrics, strategy and policy recommendations to integrate renewable and storage assets.
Participate in public stakeholder processes or initiatives in organized markets (CAISO) and NERC regions (WECC) which relate to and impact PNM¿s reliability efforts.
COMPETENCIES:
Experience with the CAISO Energy Imbalance Market and a demonstrated understanding of data analysis skills to investigate problems, determine root cause and develop and implement solutions that will resolve the identified issue(s) for changes to reduce costs and/or address special projects/initiative goals.
Three to five years working experience with one or more of the following technical areas: Wholesale Power Marketing, Renewable Energy development, Project Management, Computer Hardware, and bulk electric system operations.
Knowledge of the interconnected bulk power generation and transmission networks and the operational aspects that affect wholesale markets, and of competitive markets such as the CAISO market.
Ability and flexibility to successfully perform in competitive environments while working both independently and in a team environment that includes time sensitive interactions with both PNM and our energy partners to provide timely answers to issues as they are reported and requires the ability to build strong relationships with a ¿win-win¿ attitude.
General understanding of State and Federal regulatory processes that can affect PNM¿s participation in the CAISO EIM markets.
Ability to work with others within the department and external departments, participate with training assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Ability to analyze complex systems, events, and data and suggest targeted improvements for implementation using organizational skills and attention to detail to adapt creative problem-solving skills to difficult challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with three to five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
This position requires communication skills that can provide information in a way others can understand the message as intended with reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals that are both easy to read/understand but also convey the most important information first.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as economic analysis, probability and statistical inference. Experience with Renewable Energy resources, Project Management, Computer Hardware, Bulk electric power system operations and/or wholesale electric market operations.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Extensive working knowledge of database, spreadsheet and word processing software and preferred experience using Energy Management System applications or supporting vendor applications.
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
