The 2 L Law Intern will assist the in-house legal team in a variety of matters. These matters may include, subject to the practical experience and needs of the business during the summer, reviewing and revising contracts, drafting memos, legal research, assisting in due diligence and major transactions, and other special projects. The 2L Law Intern will be given the opportunity to work with the attorneys and staff in the legal department, as well as business personnel, and outside counsel.
Matters undertaken by prior Interns, which involve both general commercial and industry-specific areas of law, have included:
- A dynamic 10-week internship program
- Undertake cross-functional activities to broaden your knowledge of AVANGRID and its companies
- Collaborate in project-based assignments, challenging professional work experience
- Interaction, networking and exposure to various levels of leadership and management
- Amazing mentorship opportunities
- Initial review of standard contracts, including confidentiality agreements, professional service contracts, landowner issues and letter agreements.
- Research projects on contract interpretation, employment, insurance, trademark, patents, construction permits, and interstate-commerce trucking.
- Overseeing the process of replacing a suite of standard financial contracts with counterparties which involved negotiating contract amendments and replacements directly with counterparties.
- Researching real estate issues relating to wind leases.
- Participating in negotiations for the sale of energy and green tags from a wind farm to a large utility or municipality.
Requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without the requirement for future sponsorship
- Our expectation is (and our experience has been) that the 2L Law Intern could emerge from the experience with a working knowledge of the legal issues relating to the renewable energy industry.
Education & Experience Required:
- Currently pursuing a Law School degree at an Oregon law school (or law school outside of Oregon, if the student has strong roots in Oregon and intends to practice law in this State)
- Second year law student/2L required
- Preferred 3.2 GPA
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. We will not provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status)
