Allentown, PA or The Woodlands, TX -The Accounting & Reporting team of Talen Energy is seeking a part-time Intern for the 2021 Spring Semester (January through May), with a month of training beginning in November 2020.

The Intern will be a temporarily employed full-time college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience. Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Assist with the development of disclosures and preparation of financial statements for annual and quarterly financial statement filings. 
  • Prepare various financial schedules and analysis. 
  • Analyze and interpret financial results in order to explain income statement and balance sheet variances.
  • Update and or develop various reports for internal customers.  
  • Handle special projects or ad hoc requests for financial information. 
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint and Outlook for report preparation, analysis, documentation and communication.  
  • Assist in the preparation of other government and third party surveys.
  • Interns will assist in projects such as:  
  • Reviewing queries of general ledger information.  
  • Assisting with the gathering of information and preparation of monthly internal operational reports.  
  • Reviewing information and reports to ensure they support disclosures in the quarterly filings.
  • Discussing and resolving miscellaneous issues with other departments. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program. 
  • Must be enrolled in a curriculum leading to a Baccalaureate or Master's degree in Accounting or related field of study.
  • Must be enrolled on a full-time basis (12 semester hours).  
  • Students may not continue as an Intern once they have graduated. 
  • Must possess an acceptable overall (cumulative) grade point average, no lower than a 3.0.
  • Must be eligible to work in accordance with Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) regulations.  
  • Must be able to provide an official student transcript and other required information.   
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.  
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.  
  • Must have demonstrated leadership abilities.
