Position Purpose
Summer mining engineer co-op/intern position in the Corporate Fuels Risk Management department. Gain experience and exposure to practical engineering (mining, chemical, civil, electrical or mechanical) applications within the utility industry. Individual normally works under close supervision; performs a variety of projects that have specific instructions and expected results.
Required Education & Experience
Completed sophomore year with declared major in Mining Engineering. Must currently be enrolled in school.
Minimum 3.00 GPA
Job Description
Intern will learn about the coal mining and coal-fired utility industry through evaluation, analysis and inspection.
Conduct site visits and inspections of company coal-fired plants and mines that supply coal and limestone to the utilities.
Exposed to the coal procurement process and contract management.
Trained about the impacts of coal quality on the power plant combustion process.
Work closely with other mining engineers on various projects.
Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods.
Gathers, correlates, and analyzes specific data using established procedures.
Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests and analysis.
Performs a variety of routine tasks that will improve the individual's familiarization with the engineering methods, practices, and programs of the Company.
Supports operating and maintenance functions with engineering analysis, troubleshooting, problem identification, problem resolution activities.
Assists with the development of station/engineering goals, objectives, budgets, programs and procedures.
Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free work place.
Conducts work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations.
Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Performs other duties as directed by management
