General Accountabilities:- Perform a service for department by preparing and modifying computer graphic displays for the power system Network Management System (NMS) and adding power system equipment information to network database.
- Support and develop enhancements to the computer software needed for supporting and managing NMS displays and prints.
- Assist section engineers in the production of specifications and technical documents.
- Maintain an awareness of current computer graphical display technology, programming techniques & languages.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Prepare computer graphic displays depicting power system one-line diagrams and other displays for the Network Management System (NMS). Use display building software provided by EMS vendor to prepare displays. Incorporate changes, updates and modifications to the displays to match transmission network changes, power system equipment changes and/or control system changes. Link display elements to NMS databases to facilitate real time data retrieval and equipment control.
- Ensure correctness of single-line displays by verifying equipment connectivity with NMS network database model and engineering drawings.
- Develop and support display modules which are used for building advanced computer graphic displays.
- Develop and support computer software used for display error checking, display rendering and display automated modifications. Use computer programming languages such as C, C++ and Java and computer scripting languages such as Perl.
- Prepare display built for regular NMS display release. Maintain display version control utilizing source control software and computer scripts developed with computer scripting language.
- Program application displays utilizing tabular layers which are closely linked to application Habitat databases.
- Assist in the installation, testing and evaluation of new and/or upgraded display building software provided by NMS vendor. Provide supervisor with assessments of new software
- Provide real-time NMS display support. Identify and correct display problems, specifically, for high priority NMS displays.
- Develop and support the Hydro One Network Print Generation Software.
- Develop and issue of Hydro One Transmission Operating Diagrams.
- Liaise with representatives of grid operations regarding displays and prints.
- Perform other duties as required.
Essential Knowledge:
Selection Criteria:
- Requires an advanced knowledge of computer technology and equipment configurations, operating systems and application programming to develop and support display modules for computer graphic displays.
- Requires a knowledge of electrical theory related to power system equipment and networks.
- Requires a good knowledge of data processing and database systems.
- Requires a knowledge of English to communicate effectively with others. T
- his knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of Grade XII in a Secondary, Commercial or Technical School plus a three-year course of concentrated study in the appropriate subjects obtained in the Province of Ontario from a College of Applied Arts and Technology, Polytechnical Institute or Community College or by having the equivalent level of education.
- Requires experience with specialized real-time graphic displays and single-line diagrams to identify and correct display problems in real-time. Requires experience with the NMS computer system, the Hydro One transmission network and NMS graphical displays.
- Requires experience in software development using computer languages such as C, C++ and Java.
- Requires experience in developing software using scripting languages such as Perl. Require experience in developing computer software performing graphic rendering and graphic editing.
- Requires an understanding of the power system business and experience with the operation and configuration of power system equipment to develop and maintain display building software.
- A period of up to four years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
