JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking energetic Professional Engineering Year candidates to join our Engineering & Applied Science Internship program, with openings in Clarington, Durham Region and Kincardine, ON. Our engineering divisions provide specialized expertise and guidance in support of the operations, maintenance and modification of our Pickering and Darlington generating stations and our nuclear waste facilities.
As a Professional Engineering Year Internship student, you will be teamed with a staff engineer to assist in their assigned work program. You will be given the opportunity to contribute to the success of our business by undertaking technically challenging projects or tasks with coaching and mentoring from staff who are highly experienced in the power generation industry.
The compensation rate for these positions starts at $30.81 per hour and will commensurate with experience.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Work with a multi-disciplined team of engineering and technical specialists to support the generation of the various mechanical and electrical systems
- Contribute to the overall objective of achieving an integrated environment dedicated to the safe and reliable operation of OPG's plants
- Assist with developing and executing projects in compliance with the nuclear industry's demanding set of regulations and standards using established project management processes
- Maintaining written documented processes and procedures to reflect improved operating methods and additions to all supported systems
EDUCATION
- Pursuing an Engineering or Applied Science undergraduate degree on a full-time basis
- By the start of the opportunity in May 2021, will have completed 3rd year of a 4-year program or 4th year of a 5-year program.
- Have a minimum average of 70% cGPA (B-)
- Be returning to full-time studies in the same program following the completion of the work term
- Meet the minimum Internship or Co-op Program eligibility requirements as defined by your academic institution
- Be enrolled in one of the following Engineering and Applied Science disciplines:
- Aerospace
- Chemical
- Civil
- Electrical
- Energy Systems

- Industrial
- Materials/Metallurgy
- Mechanical
- Mechatronics

QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to candidates who have the following skills and qualifications:
- Sound fundamental knowledge of engineering principles
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
- Aptitude in numerical analysis
- Willingness to learn, take initiative and trouble-shoot
- Excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills
- Project management experience
- Organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
