Department Overview

The work performed by the Corporate Security Department (CSD) is key to the company's success in protecting employees, the contract workforce, the public, and the company's physical assets, including several which are critical to the nation's power grid infrastructure. The CSD provides a variety of opportunities, including involvement in developing, communicating and implementing processes and tools relating to investigations, formal communications with company officers, personnel development, and coordination of the company's physical security efforts. Importance is placed on developing close partnerships with other Lines of Businesses and law enforcement, to ensure quick response and appropriate communication of issues and mitigation plans.

Fraud Investigators are primarily assigned to investigate allegations of fraud against PG&E, from both internal and external actors.  Fraud Investigators work closely with the company's Internal Auditing Department which provides independent, objective assurance over the adequacy of processes and controls to manage business risk and to provide control advisory services.  Fraud investigators also work with CSD Security Investigators to assist with the investigation of employee misconduct, workplace violence and non-fraud crimes against the company.  Fraud investigators may also be called upon periodically to assist with executive protection and security-related emergency response assignments, and will be expected to participate in delivering employee security-related training provided by the CSD.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Career Fraud Investigator for the San Francisco region.  The successful candidate will be able to operate independently and conduct investigations of matters including business conflicts of interest, falsification of records, expense fraud and contract fraud.  The Fraud Investigator candidate may also be required to assist with non-fraud employee misconduct investigations, executive protection and emergency response to wildfires and Public Safety Power Shutoffs. The successful candidate will have established effective relationships with law enforcement in the assigned area and be able to quickly develop additional relationships with other government agencies and community organizations. The successful candidate will also be expected to establish necessary liaison relationships with the various lines of business within PG&E.  

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 5 years prior law enforcement or investigative experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • California driver's license
  • Authority to carry a concealed weapon as permitted by the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act or equivalent California statute
  • Must be able to qualify for NERC/CIP clearance

Desired:

  • BA/BS degree in Criminology, Police Science, Criminal Justice Administration or Accounting
  • Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Public Accountant credential or equivalent
  • Ability to complete and/or oversee a comprehensive investigation
  • Ability to write a comprehensive report of investigation
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, perform and communicate activities in written and verbal form
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to communicate with different levels of bargaining units and management employees
  • Ability to manage a caseload and to prioritize the immediate needs of business clients
  • Proactive self-starter and the flexibility to support the Security Investigations team
  • Ability to self-manage time and workload to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a separate security program for which the Corporate Security department has lead responsibility

    Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough internal fraud investigations involving the falsification of records, expenses, payroll entries and conflicts of interest.
  • Conduct thorough external fraud investigations involving various PG&E contractors and subcontractors. 
  • Conduct thorough investigations involving employee misconduct, workplace violence and non-fraud crime against the company. 
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement agencies on local, state and federal levels.
  • Investigate crime scenes with investigative expertise.
  • Be available 24/7 to respond to security incidents.
  • Maintain expertise and skill levels in the executive protection program including: driving, personal protection, defensive tactics, combat shooting, first aid/CPR, site security evaluations and security technology.
  • Be available to supplement the executive protection detail 24/7, including immediate response to the security/safety needs of the executive and family members.
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of travel (business or pleasure) involving the executive and his or her family members to provide security/safety recommendations and related security mitigations.
  • Demonstrate outstanding judgment, professional demeanor, decision-making, crisis management response, interpersonal skills, communication skills, appearance and responsiveness.
  • Complete related staff assignments, research projects, presentations and security vulnerability assessments and plans.
  • Assist in planning major events involving executives from a security perspective.
  • Be available to respond to natural disaster incidents, such as wildfires and earthquakes, and have a working knowledge of the Incident Command System.
