About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]
This position is within the Energy Delivery Transmission Operations Support (EDTOS) Tools and Technology (T&T) group. EDTOS groups, including T&T, support the 24/7 operations of FirstEnergy's (FE's) two transmission System Control Centers (SCCs) in Akron, OH and Fairmont, WV as well as their respective Back Up Control Centers (BCCs) in Wadsworth, OH and Fairmont, WV. The SCCs provide 24/7 oversight of FE's transmission grid through monitoring, optimizing, and control. T&T provides support in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of tools, technology, and procedures related to the SCCs and BCCs. Positions within T&T are very dynamic and execute a wide variety of work over a spectrum of scopes. As a result, candidates filling these positions will conduct frequent interaction with peers and leadership, particularly through status updates on initiatives and projects.
IMPORTANT - This position can be located at the Akron, OH or Fairmont, WV Control Center facility.
Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrating commitment to the FirstEnergy Core Values and Behaviors including safety.
- Managing, leading, or participating in small/medium size projects.
- Understanding the Capital and O&M budgeting process with RPA/PO account management.
- Managing invoices, purchase orders, and purchase requisitions with tracking and reporting responsibilities using the SAP Work Management System.
- Utilizing and becoming proficient in RAAD, SAP, EDCA, and other applications used by the business unit.
- Assisting and/or coordinating the repair of Control Room technology and applications including A/V and telecommunications systems when needed.
- Conducting tenacious troubleshooting analysis and follow-up actions on various technology issues, including reported Control Room related items, by implementing and tracking corrective actions immediately or by forwarding to proper group or external vendors and tracking to completion.
- Being or becoming proficient in various software, analysis packages, and visualization tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint.
- Develop tools, templates, and methods of communication.
- Compile, validate, monitor, and review department metrics with team to support achieving department goals.
- Preparing technical reports and summaries, sometimes on an ad hoc basis and making presentations when necessary.
- Data mining using query tools from various databases and systems.
- Develop process mapping and guidance for business processes.
- Developing and/or supporting reporting of key metrics and benefit realization.
- Building and supporting Transmission Operations SharePoint initiatives.
- Working across Transmission Operations to ensure effective and consistent reporting and analysis.
- Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand departmental procedures.
- Providing off-hours support to the Control Room as needed (typically infrequently) during large restoration incidents.
- Building strong relationships and credibility across the organization.
- Contributing to solutions by taking the imitative to develop alternatives and recommendations.
- Being a representative at annual industry related conferences and meetings external to FE.
Qualifications include:
- Two to four year degree in a related discipline is preferred, along with minimum 0-2 years relevant work experience required. In lieu of degree, minimum 2 years relevant work experience will be required.

- Ability to travel infrequently from the Akron, OH area facilities to the Fairmont, WV facilities or vice versa if needed.

Preference given to candidates with the following:
- Experience utilizing troubleshooting skills and strategies.
- Programming experience in a variety of platforms or languages (coding on Unix, Windows, or web-based platforms).
- Proficiency with statistics.
- Familiarization with the Incident Command System (ICS).
- Financial experience, particularly with purchase orders, invoicing, capital projects, OPPM or similar experience.
- Technical writing experience.
- Public speaking experience.
