JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for an experienced Vibration & Balancing Technician to join our Machine Dynamics & Component Integrity team based at our Etobicoke, ON facility.
Reporting to the Section Manager, Power Equipment, the Vibration & Balancing Technician performs a variety of vibration tests on major and auxiliary equipment at all OPG thermal, hydro electric and nuclear stations as well for OPG partners and external customers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Plan and execute vibration testing on industrial rotating equipment such as fans, pumps, motors, compressors, gearboxes, hydro, steam and gas turbines and generators, etc.;
- Setup instrumentation and carry out various tests for the purpose of vibration performance and condition assessments, and root cause investigations;
- Carry out tests such as vibration monitoring, run-up/coast-down, impact and experimental modal analysis (EMA) and operating deflection shape (ODS);
- Perform in-situ (field) balancing on major and auxiliary equipment in power plants;
- Perform low-speed balancing on IRD and Schenck machines;
- Perform vibration time and frequency analysis, spectrum analysis, and phase analysis;
- Prepare and present assessments and reports; and
- Maintain, repair and calibrate the field & lab equipment on as required basis
- Manual material handling is required and bending, kneeling & walking for extended period of time is required
- Working at confined space and working in heights are required
- Working in Nuclear stations is required as including working inside Reactor Building
EDUCATION
- Grade 12 or equivalent, plus 8,000 hours of apprenticeship
- Red Seal Designation
- Vibration Analyst Category II per ISO 18436-2 Certification, or equivalent
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 4 years of experience in rotating equipment vibration testing, diagnosis and field balancing.
- Strong knowledge on vibration testing equipment (vibration/dynamic transducers, FFT/Dynamic Signal Analyzers, etc.) and signal processing.
- Outstanding verbal & written communication skills
- Valid G-class Driver's License in good standing.
- Ability to regularly travel up to 75% of the time within Ontario and Canada.
