Job Purpose

To support National Grid's aspiration as a world leader in the electricity transmission business, the company in endeavoring in a wide-scale digital substation transformation to reduce costs, increase reliability, reduce maintenance, and expedite construction. Over a three-year period, the digital delivery group will be creating the organizational foundation for the future electrical substation. The group is responsible to ensure an efficient and fast-paced large-scale adoption of digital substation equipment, with a goal of over 150 substation projects and around $550 million of capital expenditure in the next 10 years throughout New England and New York service territories.

The Digital Delivery OT Program Manager is responsible for alignment of IEC 61850 and online monitoring programs with IT and Security (primarily cyber) efforts at National Grid. Both programs take advantage of modern network communication to allow enhanced visibility and remote functionality. This role will work with the various IT and security groups and other impacted stakeholders to align goals, drive tasks, and facilitate timely, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.

This position may be located in Providence, RI; Syracuse, NY; or Waltham, MA. The individual will be responsible for coordinating with groups across both NE and NY areas.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the IT and cybersecurity requirement of the Company's digital substation transformation vision. As part of the digital substation transformation organization, this role will be tied directly to the operational technology while transacting with the Company's internal and contracted IT organizations.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders across the company, including IT, security, critical network infrastructure (CNI), and operations to create standardized and secure strategies for digital technology in the substation environment.
  • Identify and help develop OT skillset deficiencies for protection and telecom operations, engineering, and similar groups
  • Coordinate with the existing IEC 61850 engineering group and cybersecurity risk groups on various cybersecurity pilots for the digital substation.
  • Drive standardization, repeatability, and maintainability for new solutions which will need to be deployed at scale.
  • Identify skillset requirements for new digital substation technology and work with various stakeholders to help define roles and responsibilities.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills and influencing skills to manage relationships across the business to engage and work alongside business function leads to drive performance improvements and agree required changes to business processes.
  • Exceptional communication, both written and verbal, are required.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience with project management or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience with successful delivery of complex projects and possess team leadership skills.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
  • Knowledge of IT, OT, and technology systems is required. Knowledge of power system operations, electrical engineering, engineering economics, and familiarity with legal, purchasing, and utility accounting regulations are relevant as well.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints. Bottom-line oriented, budget-conscious, metric/measurement driven.
  • Ability to create a high energy team climate whereby team members are able to discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. both external and internal).
  • Strong skills in: negotiations, presentation, project management, interpersonal & written communication, and critical analysis.
  • Exhibit high personal standards of commitment and integrity.
  •  Valid driver's license required.
