Description

The Control Systems Engineer (DCS/SCADA) is responsible for developing standards for DCS systems for thermal and renewable sites, as well as following up with the implementation of instrumentation and control projects in the US and global operations.  Must be able to understand how to secure an OT network and define protocols for DCS and PLC upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Operate safely at all times and promote an environment where safety and environmental compliance is the number one priority.
  • Contributes to the development of control concepts and strategies.
  • Develop a standard for Control System Architecture for thermal generation and renewables.
  • Develops the strategy and standard for OT security and updating DCS and Instrumentation.
  • Design, develop, implement, commission and test major and minor changes to plant control system logic, configuration, graphic displays, alarming, reports, charts, trends and databases. 
  • Provide appropriate documentation for any changes via MOC, system descriptions, procedures, alarm response, wiring and elementary diagrams, loop sheets, work orders, etc.  
  • Review logic provided by vendors for new projects, provide recommendations and assist in installation of new process control equipment commissioning and check-out. 
  • Be versed in CIP-Cyber Security Standards and how they affect site DCS security.  Provide site expertise for all standard datalink communication and network protocols, including Modbus serial, Modbus ethernet, OPC and other various protocols. 
  • Provide expertise in CCGT, Steam Turbine/Generator and renewables control systems. 
  • Diagnosis of control problems and alarms (both software and hardware), provide recommendations for fixes, upgrades etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of thermal generation Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) systems.
  • Knowledge of wind turbine SCADAs (Vestas, GE, Nordex, Mitsubishi)
  • Knowledge of networks (Ethernet, Control Net, Device Net, Modbus, OPC)
  • Must be proficient in the following programs: MS Office, AutoCAD, DCS/PLC/HMI programming software (Allen-Bradley, Emerson, ABB, Schneider and Siemens);
