Position Purpose
This position provides basic to advanced level technical support for industrial control systems, applications, and technologies for LGE-KU Transmission Operations Energy Management System (EMS). The position is responsible for maintenance, support, troubleshooting, security and compliance with regulatory standards, project work, and 24 x 7 x 365 on-call support. The EMS system environment is a high-availability configuration with complex technology configurations and is both a mission critical and highly regulated area of the business.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or alternate bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications
One to eight years computer systems professional experience preferred.
Experience interfacing Transmission Energy Management Systems with Distribution Management Systems - a plus.
A successful academic or work background indicating a demonstrated ability to absorb information, apply conceptual skills in practical applications, solve business and technology problems, achieve desired results in a highly technical, high availability, high visibility, and highly regulated, operating environment. Industry certifications in programming, security, processes, databases, networking, operating systems, auditing, and/or compliance desirable.
Job Description
- Performs all work activities with professionalism in a manner that supports an accident-free, safety-first work place.
- System troubleshooting and support of EMS systems and Advanced Applications. Participates in 24/7/365 support and on-call rotation including holidays. Provides both on-site and remote support, through responsible use of company provided computing, monitoring, alerting, and telephony tools.
- Basic to advanced EMS technology design, evaluation, documentation, selection, and implementation of solutions that support client needs, meet technical requirements, and comply with regulatory standards.
- Performs system and application customizations that enable performance, functionality, compliance, and security of control systems.
- Performs programming, scripting, and database tasks in a high-availability (snap, clone, load) redundant hardware and software environment. Basic to advanced understanding of TCP/IP networks, security, operating system, patching, backup and recovery, and other technology skills relevant to EMS control system. Continual development of technology skill sets in applicable technologies and security disciplines.
- Possesses working knowledge of various technologies and demonstrates the ability to leverage and appropriately integrate those technologies within the current environment. Balances technology integration alternatives and provides input for solutions with consideration to technical efficiency and effectiveness, performance, reliability, compliance, and costs.
- Coordinates financial management accountabilities for assigned projects and tasks.
- Installation and maintenance activities related to EMS system hardware and software. Compliance with standard operating procedures for reliability, resilience, and security of the systems. Development and implementation of new procedures.
- Performance monitoring, tuning and capacity planning for multi-user, multi-cluster, high-availability, and mission critical, EMS systems.
- Stays up to date on Company and departmental procedures for operational and compliance requirements. Consistently applies and follows Company and department operational and compliance processes in delivery of service to clients.
- Supports both internal and external audit activities of controls and regulatory standards.
- Participates in electric utility industry organizations, forums, regulatory bodies and other relevant venues for industrial control systems. Monitors and responds to internal and external security and patch alerting for the security and compliance of the systems. Recommends new processes and modification of existing processes to meet reliability, security, and compliance goals.
- Meet deadlines for tasks, documentation, status reports, expense reports, time entry, and other work responsibilities as assigned.
- Employ professional interpersonal skills with clients, peers, departmental management, and vendors in business matters inclusive of those with technical content. Participate in cross-training and skill transfer with clients and peers. Competent technical and non-technical verbal and written communications.
- Performs reporting of metrics and key service indicators to management.
- Performs other duties as assigned and directed by management.
Work Conditions
Normal office environment with some visits to fields locations.
