A full-time permanent opportunity has just became available for a professional and analytical Senior Accountant to join the ATCO Finance team in Calgary. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the manufacturing business unit, overseeing the treasury cycle and providing accurate and timely information to internal and external stakeholders. 

Responsibilities:

Cost accounting:

  • Reconcile and attest to the accuracy of the following balance sheet accounts: inventory, WIP and finished goods;
  • Prepare monthly management reporting on manufacturing KPIs including direct/indirect labour hours, inventory purchasing, inventory consumption and cost analysis;
  • Work closely with manufacturing team on improving KPIs, assisting with ad-hoc queries, providing timely reporting and resolving reconciling items on a regular basis;
  • Support the manufacturing team with forecasting and results analysis;
  • Overseeing manufacturing project cycle including reviewing and approving manufacturing project creation, monitoring project cost accounting and closing projects upon completion;
  • Work together with AR and revenue accountants to ensure manufacturing projects are billed accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Prepare expenditure batches, journal entries and accruals related to manufacturing projects and activities.

Internal/external financial reporting:

  • Prepare monthly management reporting of financial results for the manufacturing business unit, including investigation and analysis of period and forecast variances;
  • Monitor internal controls to ensure that manufacturing project accounting activities are complying with contract terms and conditions, as well as company policies and procedures;
  • Complete monthly surveys of manufacturing for Statistics Canada;
  • Troubleshoot process and system-related issues;
  • Assist with executive presentations and related communications;
  • Some manufacturing contracts / joint ventures may require the preparation of accounting records and audited financial statements and note disclosures;
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual accounting records for a small joint venture, including:
    • Implementing processes to collect required information;
    • Prepare working papers and reconciliations;
    • Ensure financial statements are prepared on time.

Liaising with internal and external auditors:

  • Plan for internal and external audits of assigned business operations. Be responsive to audit queries and follow-on improvement plans.

Qualifications:

·    Minimum 4 years of related accounting experience;

·    Prior financial reporting experience, preferably with a CPA firm or public company reporting;

·    Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business with a major in Accounting;

·    Professional Accounting Designation e.g., Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA);

·    Possess an understanding of IFRS;

·    Proficient with MS Office applications; experience with Oracle Cloud is preferred;

·    Able to relate well to people at all levels, and able to work effectively in a team environment;

·    Demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills;

·    Able to identify problems and facilitate problem resolution;

·    Well organized and able to meet tight deadlines with minimal direct supervision;

·    Produce results with accuracy and a high quality of work;

·    Strong communication skills and ability to present information in a variety of formats to all levels of employees.
