Note: this position may be filled at the entry level Tech I or next level up as a Tech II dependent upon a candidate's qualifications and experience.
Level I - This is the first level of the wind operations classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve problems, in technical areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. They have knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures.
Level II
This level will have a minimum of one year technical experience with Duke or equivalent. This level is somewhat proficient, but still needs supervision. The technician will need to complete the Turbine Technician I JPM and the Electrical Operator 1 JPM and complete the Intermediate Knowledge Requirement before reaching this level. A Level 2 will have achieved the required tenure and completed the required JPMs. Employees at this level receive instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.
Maintenance of Wind Turbine Fleet (level I and II)
- Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
- Perform turbine pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
- Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
- Work as scheduled during the week and on call as required by manager
- Climb 300 ft. several times daily
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness at all times
Compliance & Administrative Record Maintenance
- EH&S Documentation
- Complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary)
Additional Support for Fleet Wind Sites
- Willing to travel and assist other Duke Energy Generation Services wind facilities when needed.
Basic Qualifications - Wind Tech I
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a two year associates degree or technical school certificate OR
- A combination of education and experience and 1 plus years of directly related experience can be considered in lieu of a degree/technical certificate
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily is a requirement of this position; ability to complete level I job performance measures within 1 year.
Basic Qualifications - Wind Tech II
- Two year associates degree or technical school certificate AND
- A minimum of 2 years of directly related work experience OR
- 3 plus years of directly related experience can be considered in lieu of a degree/technical certificate
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily is a requirement of this position; ability to complete level I job performance measures within 1 year.
Desired Qualifications
- Additional years of experience with wind turbines
- Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technology
- High voltage and sub station maintenance experience
- Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e. voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
- Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
