Operational engineering has a need for an Operational Technology System Engineer to support deployment and sustaining Operational Technology (OT) and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements for compliance, primarily within the substation environment.
This position reports to the Manager, Operational Engineering
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate 200-300 device inventory on an annual basis both for Operational Technology (OT) and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requirements.
- Assist the Senior OT System Engineer with Security System Upgrades, e.g. Eaton IMS updates, compatibility testing, RADIUS upgrades.
- Provide field support for security system access issues.
- Provide support to the NOC for real time remote password change requests.
- Assist the Senior OT System Engineer with Bastion Host Application management.
- Manage OT device passwords and perform scheduled remote password changes.
- Review external patch sources for all disciplines and inform firmware controllers.
- Perform firmware verification testing as requested by firmware controllers.
- Perform integration testing for new devices with various security systems, e.g. Eaton IMS, RADIUS/LDAP configuration, SNMP traps.
- Vendor interactions and contract reviews to support patch availability through S&M contracts.
- Coordinate, track and review compliance to the Patch Management process (assessment and mitigation plans).
- Work closely with Projects and Asset Management to monitor and report on CIP KPIs which incorporate the monthly scorecards.
- Assist with patch and vulnerability assessments.
- Author CIP related standards for approval by Principal Engineers.
- Ensure equipment application standards and requirements are identified and adhered to.
- Support and document requirements associated with CIP event recoveries (responsible substation OT devices and quality assurance for other disciplines).
- Review and report on scans performed on substation OT devices to management.
- Escalate potential issues and non-compliance to Management .
- Coordinate the performance of annual vulnerability assessments and resulting remediation (monthly reconciliation required).
- Assign remediation tasks and track for timely compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with preference for Electrical or Systems Engineer.
- Qualifies for registration as a Professional Engineer (EIT) or have a Professional Engineer designation by APEGA.
- Minimum 4 years experience in the Utility industry.
- Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of AESO CIP compliance requirements and their impact on IT, OT, SCADA and P&C systems.
- Strong experience with business analysis and requirement gathering techniques.
- Strong attention to details.
- Operational experience in the Protection & Control and SCADA discipline would be an asset.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
