The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) performs core financial activities to support the business goals of the organization, contributing to the overall success of the organization by effectively executing responsibilities and providing value added activities to meet the finance and Operational team objectives for Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("THESL" or the "organization").
This position will be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the systems, processes, standards and tools to ensure the delivery of timely, accurate and quality capital related plan and actual financial information for the organization. The incumbent works with internal stakeholders to facilitate the processes of business planning, capitalization, derecognition, month-end close and reporting and to support operational business decision-making as it relates to the capital program.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads the process of monitoring and reporting on compliance/capital spend against regulatory approval and identifies program level risks and opportunities
- Leads the capitalization process for assigned operational business units, providing guidance while ensuring adherence to appropriate controls
- Leads and executes management systems and processes related to capital budgeting and forecasting to support organization financial planning
- Support monthly senior management engagement processes, including providing financial information with analysis
- Prepares and reviews evidence to support rate and non-rate related regulatory applications
- Provides financial reporting, analysis, support and guidance with respect to capital related financial scorecards
- Works with internal operational stakeholders to implement controls and execute end-to-end processes for the capitalization and budgeting of capital projects while maximizing use of system functionality and seeking productivity improvements in Operational and Finance processes
- Monitors the aging of Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) to ensure validity of capital expenditures and make decisions on financial transactions eligible for capitalization
- Coordinates and executes pre-close activities for PPE, and draft notes for external financial statements
REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in Finance, Accounting or Business related field.
- Professional accounting designation required
- 3-5 years of progressive financial analysis experience in a capital intensive environment
- Regulated business or energy sector experience preferred
- Financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting experience
- Working experience with complex ERP systems, data analysis and reporting tools. Database/data management concepts specifically as it relates to SAP financial systems
- Knowledge of accounting standards/policy under IFRS; specifically related to capitalization and derecognition
- Problem solving skills with ability to independently recommend solutions
- Demonstrated project planning, documentation and reporting skills
- Detail oriented and demonstrates strong business acumen
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint and Word
- Maintain confidentiality over sensitive information
- Ability to interpret and decipher operational reporting and statistics to enable decision making in a time sensitive and dynamic environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
