Job Description
The primary purpose of the Fleet Asset Manager is to ensure that the vehicle fleet that supports SDG&E's operations is viable and well-managed, such that outage response times minimized and emergency situations (both gas and electric) can be addressed in a timely, safe and effective manner.
- Leads and directs a team (including Senior Vehicle Designers, Fleet Asset Program Advisors and Fleet QA Inspectors) in the acquisition, optimal deployment, management of lifecycle ownership costs and salvage/sale of SDG&E's fleet of vehicles and specialized work equipment with an asset value exceeding $110 million. This includes development and review of fleet asset acquisition strategies designed to meet high visibility corporate objectives, such as meeting Alternate Fuel Vehicle (AFV) targets, and that includes both replacement of assets and additions to the fleet optimizing life-cycle value.
- Advise and influence management and obtain buy-in and support. Communicate with all levels of management, including client groups, regarding acquisition strategy details and activities to obtain approval and to effectively implement fleet asset team strategies. Ensure that processes and systems are in place to keep client organizations appraised of vehicle acquisition status.
- Develop, refine and implement an Alternate Fuel Vehicle (AFV) procurement strategy that integrates with the fleet asset acquisition strategy and supports federal, state and company objectives related to the reduction of petroleum use and efficiency improvements. Ensure adherence to AFV and emissions related mandates that are primarily affected through the acquisition of fleet equipment and vehicles. Effectively assimilate and leverage technology related funding opportunities into the strategy.
- Orchestrate utilization of fleet assets (vehicles). Develop, maintain and effectively implement fleet related acquisition and disposal/salvage processes. Develop, analyze and review the life-cycle ownership costs of SDG&E fleet assets and oversee the financial modeling that supports the development and implementation of effective long-term strategic vehicle acquisition strategies and programs. Directs and controls the analysis of vehicle utilization across the utility and ensures optimal deployment of fleet assets as well as developing strategies to optimize the sale of vehicles and equipment.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Fleet Services organization as well as with client organizations to effectively and efficiently communicate and implement strategies and change while meeting client group fleet related needs. Work closely with client organizations to ensure that vehicle specifications and designs support work practices and that fleet assets meet the client's needs.
- Review and update fleet-related data to ensure relevancy and accuracy. Periodically review and update fleet vehicle related management reports generated through the fleet database (asset works M4 system). Provide support to the Fleet Systems team regarding application platform updates and implementations.
- Lead the vehicle acquisition and contracting process. Oversee and lead in the establishment and administration of the Fleet Services asset related contract portfolio. Lead the Request for Proposal (RFP) process to ensure robust competition among potential suppliers and in the establishment and negotiations of fleet asset team related agreements.

Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or equivalent work experience. An advanced degree, such as an MBA, is preferred.
- Previous experience of at least eight years in fleet, automotive or operational management is required.
- Must possess above average computer skills, and strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent knowledge in contract development, negotiations and managing vendor performance, generally acquired through five years of experience is required.
- Must possess strong financial acumen to effectively analyze cost data and trends required to develop long-term replacement strategies.
- Must be able to travel.
