Description
Babcock and Wilcox Construction Co., LLC is seeking a Scaffolding Superintendent for a jobsite in Monaca, PA. This position will report to a manager from Great Arrow Builders LLC (GAB). GAB is a consolidated joint association formed to support direct hire construction work for the Pennsylvania Chemicals Project (Petrochemical Facility).
Role Overview:
The Scaffolding Superintendent will be responsible for supervising and directing activities of construction craft within an assigned area of responsibility. Receives routine supervision from Area Superintendent and direction in the performance of assigned responsibility.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Directs craft activities, through craft supervision, within the area of responsibility. Monitors and ensures that the quality of work performed meets requirements. Analyzes workforce, material, and equipment requirements, and coordinates the area discipline work plan requirements with others as designated by the Area Superintendent.
- Implements and enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management. Prepares reports and forecasts, as required, and keeps supervisors informed on progress of overall assigned activities. Assists Area Superintendent in the preparation of construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements. Supervises and directs subordinate non-manual personnel, as assigned. Ensures Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
- Main scope will be providing scaffolds in pipe racks for pipefitters, welders, painters, insulators, electricians hanging scaffolds, cantilevered, systems scaffolds and tube and clip (fitting).
- Some scaffolds will be near or over water in marine environment at jettys and docks. Scaffolding for turbine decks, compressors, generators, pumps motors, gearboxes, tanks.
- The Scaffolding Superintendent is responsible for overseeing up to 200 scaffolders, Foreman & General Foreman - there will be several crews each with their own Foreman and groups answering to General Foreman.
- The Scaffolding Superintendent will be responsible to plan work with the Area Superintendent's direction according to project schedule, assist in writing requisitions for additional manpower, assist in ordering tools and equip for the Scaffolding group. Assist in Maintaining a min / max system for tools & consumables for Scaffolding group.
- Thorough knowledge of all types of tube and clip and systems scaffold is essential.
- Managing & Maintaining scaffold erection and inspection logs for the scaffold tag system.
- A thorough knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out procedures for working around energized equipment.
- The Scaffolding Superintendent will have shared responsibility to manage the scaffold yard, schedule and perform preventative maintenance and repair of all scaffolding components.
- Assist the Area Superintendent in managing all scaffolders and ensure a period of time spent onsite in the onsite scaffold yard to familiarize themselves with all the different types of scaffolding that we have and to learn the handling, loading, unloading, sorting, maintenance system.
- The maintaining of all scaffolding equipment and the efficiency of the sites scaffold yard is key to our success as the scaffolding group.
- Assist the Area Superintendent in managing subcontractors use of Bechtel scaffolding materials and ensure all materials are brought back into our scaffold yard.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of a single or multi-discipline construction or engineering operation relating to field activities.
- Knowledge of Zero Accident Philosophy is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan and the Bechtel Core Processes.
- Knowledge is normally acquired through:
- Educational training in general engineering, courses in construction technology and management, and/or work experience in craft, non technical or technical positions.
Physical Requirements:
Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued personal protective equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. body harness, life vest, etc.).
Additional Information:
- This position is a full time, hourly position that operates in the field on a jobsite.
- Must be willing to park offsite and get transported into the jobsite.
