Position Purpose
Operations and Maintenance Technician Interns will work with more experience employees to learn the safe operation and maintenance of combustion and steam turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators, and auxiliary equipment.
To be eligible for the position, the intern must be enrolled in an applicable two-year technical degree program.
Required Education & Experience
Candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, must be currently enrolled and pursuing technical degree in industrial electricity, electronics, applied process technology or related field. Candidate must maintain 2.5 GPA in the degree program Requires excellent computer skills with knowledge and experience using Excel. Above average interpersonal written/oral communication skills required. Must be able and willing to comply with all safety rules. Must be able to safely perform physical requirements of the job.
Job Description
- Assist with simple repair work requiring an entry-level degree of skill to work with the following:
- Combustion/steam turbine instrument, electrical and mechanical maintenance including calibration/testing, installation, troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance on all plant equipment including process control equipment, generators, motors, pumps, batteries, transformers, regulators, valves, circuit breakers, switches, instrumentation, control relays, and additional auxiliary equipment.
- Assist with predictive and preventive maintenance work by inspecting, monitoring, lubricating, troubleshooting and testing plant equipment.
- Assist in startup and shut down of plant equipment including monitoring and operating plant and responding to events and emergencies.
- Assist in operating controls and devices for proper plant operation. Coordinate unit operation with Generation Dispatch and Transmission Operations as required.
Work Conditions
Industrial work environment including significant outdoor work with exposure to the elements (i.e., heat, cold, wet, etc.). Work may include ladders, platforms, and uneven work surfaces. Dust and debris associated with handling of fuels and fuel by-products. Respirator use may be required at times.
Physical Effort
Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis and 50 lbs. from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, lifting bars, valves; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on an hourly basis.
