The Vice President, AMI Software Engineering is responsible for development of market leading software solutions in the AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) space.
This position will be responsible for leading the development of Industrial IoT solutions that enable electric, water, and gas distribution utilities to safely, reliably, and efficiently operate their networks. This leader will be responsible for delivering a unified platform supporting traditional head end functionality, a sensor data management platform, and advanced applications supporting Aclara's Distribution Operations and Smart Infrastructure Solutions initiatives. This role will also be responsible for managing a full product delivery organization including UX, software engineering, quality engineering, and DevOps including 365/24/7 live site SaaS operations.
Essential Functions:
- Lead technology planning activities to align software engineering priorities to business goals.
- Lead the Software (NPI) New Product Introduction development effort and collaborate with key internal and external partners.
- Manage to budget, deliver on time Software products, systems and solutions that align with the AMI / Company strategy.
- Develop and executive a technology strategic plan.
- Collaborate with the appropriate departments to develop and maintain a technology plan that supports organizational needs.
- Partner with Product Management to define aggressive, but achievable product roadmaps, with commitment to delivery.
- Effectively manage department budget to support attainment of software portfolio P&L objectives.
- Anticipate and react to major technology changes to ensure the maintenance of company leadership in the competitive landscape.
- Maintain a culture of continuous improvement with a focus on being a best in class product delivery organization.
- Maintain a culture of delivering on-time, on-scope, on-budget, and on-quality.
- Fully accountable for software quality and on-time delivery.
- Lead the technology team in enforcing standard practices that enhance maintainability and reliability of software across the product line.
- Provide coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve employee, department, company and customer results.
- Challenge and inspire employees to achieve and deliver business results.

- Mentor managers in the full spectrum of strategy, planning, SDLC, people management and cross-functional collaboration.
- Lead a team of highly skilled employees by directing department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, design for supportability, and develop testing designs and procedures.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field required.
- At least 15 years in software engineering, with at least 5 in a leadership position.
- Experience managing large teams and distributed development projects.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret technology and market trends as a foundation for technology and product roadmaps.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with waterfall, agile/scrum methodologies, and complete application life-cycle management.
- Current knowledge in relevant product technologies, including .NET, Azure, Jenkins, Cassandra.
- At least three years' experience delivering multi-tenant SaaS solutions.
- At least three years' experience leading teams utilizing Agile development methodologies.
- Proven success in establishing key performance indicators, metrics, and focus to drive software development best practices.
- Advanced negotiation, problem solving and interpersonal skills (presentation, written and oral) and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
Preferred
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Master's in Business Administration.
- Experience delivering solutions for utilities or other complex electronic, communications or related technical, industrial entities.
- Experience delivering software as part of a complete IoT solution.
Physical Demands:
- Travel up to 20-30%, via air and land.
