About the Position
General duties include:
- Turns on and shuts off gas and electric meters.
- Changes out electric meters under the following conditions: obsolete meters, damaged meters (non-hazardous situations only) and residential meters.
- Changes gas meters gas regulators, and high-pressure service valves.
- Performs operational safety checks on gas appliances, minor adjustments to gas appliances, limited parts replacement, and restorations of service. Issues follow-up orders for appliances requiring calibration or disassembly.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Scheduling and shift information:
Candidates should be aware that this position, as is the case in most positions within the Company, requires successful bidders to work overtime, which includes extended days, call-outs for emergency work, weekend work and holiday work.
THOSE WHO DO NOT REGULARLY AND CONSISTENTLY RESPOND TO CALL-OUTS WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE POSITION AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO DISCIPLINE.
Qualifications
Strongly preferred qualifications:
- Professional experience in one or more of these types of jobs: heating/air conditioning, appliance repair, plumbing, pipe fitting, and/or construction.
Required qualifications:
- Must have good safety habits
- Must have demonstrated ability to absorb formal training and schooling
- Must have a good attendance record
- Must have good customer service skills
- Must have a valid California Driver's License
- Must have an acceptable driving record
Schedule requirements:
- This position requires shift work and may also include work on Saturday, Sunday, holidays or nights.
- Previously scheduled vacations may have to be altered according to operating needs.
Testing requirement:
The passing of the RED battery test is required for this position. Candidates selected for the test will be invited via email. Study guides can be found at www.sdge.com.
