Job Summary: 

  • Responsible for tracking plant turbine performance parameters; coordinating appropriate testing to determine root cause of problems; providing system or equipment performance testing; project management;  and, recommending appropriate and cost effective solutions to correct problems and/or improve efficiency.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

The duties at this level include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety and Environmental focused individual who emphasizes and practices leadership safety qualities into all activities.
  • Creating maintenance procedures and providing guidance in scheduled Original Engineering Manufacturer (OEM) runtime based hot section and compressor inspections and overhauls.
  • Assisting in the calibration of end devices including transmitters, limit switches, control valves, transducers and power relays.
  • Maintain the highest achievable life, availability and reliability of the plant rotating equipment by carrying out RCA, technology deployment, performance monitoring, etc.
  • Provide on-site interpretation of data and technical instruction.
  • Make recommendations on findings, reviewing effectiveness of maintenance actions in order to identify future needs.
  • Participate and provide guidance on unit start-up and performance tests ensuring proper and safe operation of the machine by evaluating the running parameters and troubleshoot mechanical issues as they arise.
  • Create and manage budgets on all turbine maintenance projects.

Working Conditions:

  • Both normal office and out of doors work environment.
  • This could include working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures, and wet, dirty and high humidity areas.  Will also include work in confined spaces.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle and valid Driver's License.  Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect and/or collect data on plant equipment.
  • Work overtime and non-standard hours as required supporting plant operations.
  • Business area covers gas turbines at the TH Wharton and Greens Bayou facilities.
  • Use of PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment), which may include safety glasses, hard hat, protective footwear, ear plugs, gloves, safety harness, respirator, etc.
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • Operation of a personal computer.
  • May require lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.
  • Some to NRG Regional plants and component support shops.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 year Engineering Degree from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years' experience with maintenance on gas turbines in a power plant.
  • 5+ years' experience in operations, maintenance and repair of General Electric, Siemens, Westinghouse or Alstom gas turbines.
  • 5+ years' experience in leading overhauls on gas turbines in a power generation facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge in Gas turbines commissioning, troubleshooting and operation.
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with turbines operating, condition monitoring, maintenance and overhauls and experience in instrumentation calibration, operation and maintenance of gas power turbines.
  • Experience in the operating principles of control and measurement devices including pneumatic and electric, fuel and air flow controllers, vibration sensors, PLC's, power relays, and fire protection systems.  
  • Ability to understand and implement technical drawings (Mechanical drawings, P&ID, General Arrangement, etc.)
