Description
The Director of Market Operations is responsible for the overall management of the company's commodity positions in the short term markets including 1) Energy and ancillary services strategy and execution, 2) Market dispatch / scheduling, 3) Capacity strategy and execution and 4) Energy management services. Directly or indirectly oversees contract administration, transaction structuring & negotiation of short term portfolio management and generation operations
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements commercial trading strategies for management of the US short term commodity position
- Directly works with the Director of RTO affairs to track, analyze, report on, and proactively engage on issues of interest to AES before ISO/RTO working groups and related state and federal regulatory bodies, complementing technical work and engagement before ISO/RTOs by Director of RTO Affairs
- Collaborates with the Chief Commercial Officer and the commercial team in the development strategies aimed at increasing market presence and optimizing variable margin
- Collaborates with the Director of Origination to advance strategic customer understanding within the Utility footprint and across the US in evaluating market information to identify target customers and opportunity types, and support the development and delivery of consultative solutions to potential clients
- In coordination with the Director of Portfolio Analytics develop and implement digital and advanced analytics aimed at improving variable margin capture at AES operating assets
- Ensure compliance with AES Risk Management Policy
- Ensure compliance with Regulatory Agency and NERC policies and guidelines as they relate to the operation of generation, transmission and distribution systems.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Engineering or an equivalent field
- Master's or other advanced degree preferred
- Knowledge of PJM, WECC, CAISO, SPP, ERCOT and Western markets.
- 7-10 years experience in the wholesale electricity markets and power trading
- 5-7 years experience in managing a front office team
- Strong analytical aptitude, experience with Microsoft Office Suite and ETRM systems
- Demonstrated ability to think and act with strategic and tactical agility to develop a global marketing plan to support the overall commercial objectives of the organization
- Capacity for composure, patience, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple priorities at a given time.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills including effective presentation skills and the ability to address customer requirements and concerns with a sense of urgency, and a roll-up-your-sleeves, hands-on approach
