Job Purpose
As a Senior Data Scientist at National Grid, you will define and build models, mine big and small data to better understand customers and their energy habits, and develop full production-level solutions, all of which would make you the catalyst of process reengineering through advanced analytics. You will work in a dynamic organization to turn data into actionable intelligence. The variety and complexity of challenges you will solve is second to none, but most important is the real world impact your work will have on the lives of millions of people.
The National Grid Data Science teams provide insights and conclusions from multiple sources of information in a variety of different formats using analysis techniques that range from simple to advanced. An ability to work cross-functionally and on Agile teams is critical and you should have a broad knowledge of:
- Statistical & Probabilistic Analyses
- Data Engineering
- Programming/Software Development
- Effective Visualization and Presentation
Key Accountabilities
- Lead projects from conception to completion, working with clients directly to understand and address their analytic needs
- Identify, extract, and integrate data sets ranging in size from spreadsheets to big data; prepare and clean data for use in advanced analysis
- Employ sophisticated analytics programs, machine learning, and statistical methods for predictive and prescriptive modeling, forecasting, and simulations
- Develop production-level code that enables automation and post-roll out customer self-service
- Mentor junior Data Scientists
- Be intellectually curious and enjoy learning
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate key messages to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree in progress or completed is desired. Perferably in a quantitavie discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in business environment as a data scientist/business analyst/quantitative analyst,
- PhD work that included TA/RA responsibilities will be considered for commensurate experience,
- Experience leading projects
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with business stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical knowledge into business terms
- Fluency in Machine learning tools and techniques, Python and/or R, SQL
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with cloud computing in Linux environment (Azure / AWS is a plus)
- Strong Business Analytics background
- Regulated utility experience
- Active github repository and stackoverflow account
- Data science competition entries (kaggle, kdnuggets, etc.)
- Big data frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, Hive)
- NoSQL experience
- Experimental Design experience
- GIS knowledge (ArcGIS is a plus)
- Interactive visualization tools (Power BI / Tableau is a plus)
- Knowledge of Agile frameworks
Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy.
